Intent of the process

The intent is to staff multiple positions with various tenures, various language requirements, and various security requirements within Natural Resources Canada. This process may also be used to staff similar positions in other Government of Canada departments.

Here are some of the things we are looking for:
Graduation, with a degree, from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in economics, sociology, or statistics.

Note: Candidates must always have a degree. The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and may have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization. The specialization may also be obtained through an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

If you were educated outside of Canada, you must have your credentials and/or diploma assessed against Canadian education standards. The public service will accept any Foreign Educational Credentials as long as they are deemed comparable to Canadian standards, through a recognize credential assessment service.

Degree equivalency

• You have experience in developing plans and implementing projects in any of the following: stakeholder engagement, Indigenous engagement, public consultation, digital engagement, outreach, public environment analysis, audience research, or public opinion research.

• You have built collaborative working relationships with a wide variety of internal or external stakeholders, partners, or colleagues.

• You have provided advice (in-person or in writing) to senior management on one or more of the following types of issues: stakeholder engagement, Indigenous engagement, public consultation, digital engagement, outreach, public environment analysis, audience research, or public opinion research.

• You have analyzed qualitative and/or quantitative data to report on online or in-person engagement, outreach or public opinion research projects such as: public opinion research data, open data sets, public reports, internal reports, media and/or social media metrics, or web performance metrics.

• Knowledge of current trends, issues and challenges facing Natural Resources Canada and the Government of Canada.
• Knowledge of digital engagement, environmental scanning and research approaches and tactics.

We want to confirm that the cumulative results of your education, experience and knowledge support your ability to:

You may have other experience that is not necessary for all our positions but that could be an asset:

• A Master’s degree in a field relevant to the position.

Degree equivalency

• Experience developing, applying and analyzing performance measures, web metrics, social media metrics, or engagement evaluations.
• Experience managing contracts, resource sharing or funding arrangements such as grants and contributions with partners or suppliers.
• Experience working in a communications environment.

What is next?

Our management team will closely review the information you provide, especially your education and experience. This determines whether your application will be further assessed. We will review the applications as we receive them, so if you have what it takes, you should hear from us soon about proceeding to Phase 2.

Phase 2: Show us your stuff
You made it. During this Phase, you will demonstrate your competencies. We might subject you to a variety of testing methods including interviews, written tests or online evaluations. Don’t worry, you’ll be given a heads-up and time to prepare. This Phase is important for you and for us, as it lets you demonstrate your talent and lets us ensure you can be successful in our organization. This Phase takes longer than other phases, but the results will be worth the time investment.

Phase 3: Meet us
If you have what it takes and have been successful in demonstrating the competencies, our management team will be excited to meet you, either in person or virtually, to validate and further understand what we have learned about you. We may also assess what other talents you can bring to our team and where you best fit in.

Phase 4: Congratulations!
You have met all our requirements, and an offer could be on the table. We will let you know where you stand and tell you when and if you can expect to be offered a position on our team.
