The communications services team is looking for a communications officer to work with our strategic communications advisor in developing communications products and activities to support the agency with all its public-facing communications needs.

Our office is located at 30 Victoria Street, in downtown Gatineau (Hull sector). Our modern building has indoor bike storage and comfortable locker rooms and showers. We’re in a workplace 2.0 environment with large windows and a direct view of the Ottawa River.

Intent of the process

The intent of the process is to establish a pool of fully or partially qualified candidates. The pool may be used to staff similar positions within Elections Canada with various tenures (specified periods or indeterminate) and various bilingual needs (profiles such as BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC or CCC/CCC).

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION
A degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in communications, journalism, public relations or other specialty relevant to the position.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
*Recent and ** significant experience developing and writing a variety of communications products such as key messages, media lines, news releases, speeches, briefing materials, Web content, brochures, backgrounders, social media messages, media summaries or presentations.
Experience in providing communications advice and recommendations to clients or supervisors.
*Recent experience in developing or implementing communications strategies or plans.

*Definition of recent: Recent experience is defined as experience acquired within the last three (3) years.
**Definition of significant: Significant is defined as the depth and breadth of experience normally associated with having performed a broad range of activities related to this task which are acquired over a period of six months.

EXPERIENCE
Experience assisting in the development, implementation or evaluation of communications plans with a focus on new, digital or social media.
Experience working with service providers such as: graphic designers; linguists; communications consultants or strategists.
Experience in developing communications products for the general public or for specific audiences.
Experience in leading or participating in projects involving many players.

KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of Elections Canada’s mandate

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

Must be willing to work on weekends on a rotational basis during a general election, by-election and referendum.
Must be willing to work overtime during federal electoral events or as needed.
Consent to observe strict political impartiality and neutrality for the duration of employment.
