EDUCATION:
A Bachelor of Law degree from a recognized university (LL.B., J.D, LL.L. or equivalent)
OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
Membership in the Bar of one of the provinces or territories of Canada or in the Order of Notaries in the Province of Quebec.
EXPERIENCE:
At least twelve months of experience within the last three years representing clients in matters before administrative or quasi-judicial decision-makers; or providing legal services in direct support of administrative or quasi-judicial decision-makers as a primary part of the job.
*Primary is defined as substantial, regular and ongoing.
KNOWLEDGE:
-Knowledge of human rights law including the Canadian Human Rights Act, related policies and case law.
-Knowledge of administrative law.
-Knowledge of the rules of procedure and evidence that apply to the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal.
ABILITIES:
-Ability to draft legal documents (e.g., memorandums, submissions, pleadings, mediations briefs, requests for instructions, etc.).
-Ability to communicate effectively orally.
PERSONAL SUITABILITY:

ASSET EXPERIENCE:
-Experience litigating human rights cases.
-Experience working for Indigenous governments or representative bodies, or other Indigenous organizations whose primary mandate consists of representing or providing services to Indigenous peoples.

-Experience litigating civil law cases.
