Work environment

This position is located in a law enforcement environment which includes regular contact with uniformed and armed police officers.

Intent of the process

A qualified group of candidates may be identified and may be used to staff future vacancies (including similar positions, on a term or indeterminate basis, at full or part time hours) located in Dawson Creek, BC. Once established, the qualified pool will be valid for a period of 12 months and may be extended.

This position is advertised simultaneously via an internal process and an external process; and the same assessment tools will be applied to both processes. Consequently, candidates who applied to process 18-RCM-IA-P-E-DAW-IMT-73530 and 18-RCM-EA-P-E-DAW-IMT-73531 will only be assessed once.

Education:
Successful completion of a 2- or 3-year diploma in Electronics and/or Telecommunications, specializing in Radio Frequency (RF), Wireless Technology or another specialty relevant to the position from a recognized university, college, or institution, or eligibility for certification by a Canadian certifying body.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
1. *Significant experience implementing, testing or maintaining modern radio communications system equipment.

2. *Significant experience working with state-of-the-art electronic test equipment utilized in the land mobile radio, cellular or broadcast radio field(s).

3. *Significant experience in programming, testing, modifying or maintaining modern, computer-based mobile radio subscriber equipment.

* “Significant experience” is defined as the depth and breadth of experience normally associated with the performance of duties on a continuous basis over approximately 2 years.

ORGANIZATIONAL NEEDS:
• Preference may be given to RCMP employees impacted/affected by work force adjustment.

Conditions of employment

1. RCMP TOP SECRET security clearance.
2. Possession of a valid BC Driver's license.
3. Willingness and ability to travel throughout service area (i.e. BC).
4. Willingness and ability to work extended hours, unscheduled overnight travel and/or adjust work schedule, with little or no notice, to meet operational requirements.
5. Willingness and ability to provide after-hours support via operational availability (on call).
6. Mobility to the extent of crawling and working in confined areas of vehicles/aircraft/ships to install radio, electrical and antenna equipment.
7. Physical ability for lifting of heavy or awkward items like radios and batteries, up to 90 lbs.
8. Willingness and ability to perform work duties in inclement and uncomfortable weather conditions such as pouring rain and extreme cold (-40 Celsius).
9. Able to be certified in basic/advance amateur radio within the first year of employment.

Successful candidates will have to obtain a RCMP Top Secret Security Clearance. The process to obtain RCMP security clearance involves a security/reliability interview and a field investigation regarding matters of criminal activity which includes reference checks, verification of credit/financial status, education, employment, etc. As such, the process may take several weeks or months to complete.
