The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) is an independent arm's length agency that reports to Parliament through the President of the Queen's Privy Council. The TSB is a small organization with approximately 220 employees and 5 Board Members. The organization operates in a decentralized manner through 10 locations across Canada. Employees work in a collegial and collaborative environment.
This process is designed to fill, on an indeterminate basis, a position in Dartmouth (NS), Quebec City (QC) or Montreal (QC). On the other hand, a pool of partially assessed candidates will be created and could be used to staff identical or similar positions located in different regions including the National Capital Region with different durations, profiles and /or language requirements and security levels.

A covering letter in 3,000 words (maximum) "Applicants must clearly demonstrate in their covering letter how they meet the education and experience factor listed in the Essential and Asset Qualifications. Applicants must use the education and experience factors as a header and then write one or two paragraphs for each factor demonstrating how they meet each of them with concrete examples including where, when and how they were obtained. Please note that it is not sufficient to only state that the qualification is met or to provide a listing of responsibilities. Résumés will be used as a secondary source to validate the experience described in the covering letter. EDUCATION:
Secondary School diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum 5 years of experience in the railway industry in the field of:
Railway equipment (e.g., rolling stock, car, locomotive) inspection, repair and/or maintenance;
OR
Railway track and structures inspection, repair and/or maintenance (e.g., track or engineering specialist).

KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of the North American railway network including operating practices, equipment types, standards and/or infrastructure characteristics.
Knowledge of the legislative and regulatory framework applicable to rail transportation and/or accident investigations.
ABILITITIES AND SKILLS:
Ability to identify the possible safety deficiencies involved in an accident and formulate corresponding corrective actions.
Ability to plan and effectively manage their work and at times a team in a high-pressure environment.
Ability to communicate effectively orally.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing*.
*A Public Service Commission standardized written communication proficiency test and/or other written exams may be used to assess this ability.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
University degree from a recognized institution in a field related to the position being filled.
College diploma / certification from a recognized institution in a field related to the position being filled.
EXPERIENCE:
Experience in writing technical or accident reports.
Experience in working in a regulatory organization or agency.
Railway experience in the province of Québec or the Maritimes.
Reliability Status security clearance
OTHER CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Meet the Occupational Health Assessment (Periodic III).
Possess a valid driver’s license in Canada.
Be able and agree to deploy to accident sites where there may be exposure to disagreeable and difficult working conditions and to extreme climatic conditions.
Be able and agree to respond and travel on short notice during and after normal working hours and on statutory holidays.
Be able and agree to travel within Canada and abroad, including travel by car, rail, ship and air.
Willingness to be available on standby, on a rotational basis.
Willingness to undergo TSB required training.
