Work environment

Non-Insured Health Benefits is a unit of Indigenous Services Canada which is the Federal department responsible for helping First Nations and Inuit people of Canada to maintain and improve their health, while respecting individual choices and circumstances.

We are searching for collaborative and strategic individuals who enjoy working in a dynamic environment with a strong focus on data analysis.

Intent of the process

A pool of qualified candidates will be established and may be used to staff similar, term and/or permanent positions, acting, assignments/secondments, or deployments.

Positions may be staffed via the Aboriginal Peoples Employment Program (APEP), which aims to strategically increase Aboriginal representation within First Nations and Inuit Health Branch. As such, Organizational Needs may be applied and first consideration may be given to candidates self-identifying as belonging to Aboriginal peoples.

Education:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in economics, sociology or statistics.

*Candidates must always have a degree. The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and may have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization. The specialization may also be obtained through an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
Experience using software to enter, edit, compile, convert and transfer data in spreadsheets or database systems.
Experience in extracting data from computer database systems.
Experience in developing and presenting data in textual, tabular and graphical formats using Microsoft Excel.

Knowledge:
Knowledge of practical techniques used to design and implement procedures for the collection, validation and analysis of data.

Abilities:
Ability to manipulate and adapt data from large information systems.
Ability to prepare and present data in textual, tabular or graphical formats.
Ability to communicate effectively orally.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
Ability to work under tight deadlines.
Ability to work effectively with First Nations, Inuit and/or Métis.

Experience:
Experience in using SAS software to extract, manipulate, or extract data from a large database.

Experience in a data reporting environment.

Knowledge:
Knowledge of health claim processing of extended health benefit programs (public or private).
Knowledge of pharmacy practice, including pharmacologic classification.
Knowledge of dental terminology used in the administration of a health care benefits.
