-Acts as a specialized Flight Test Engineer crew member in flight to manage the safe conduct of aircraft flight tests required for certification approval, including tests deemed as ‘High Risk’.
-Determines flight test programs that are necessary for aircraft certification approval of Canadian manufactured aeronautical products and type design review of foreign manufactured aeronautical products as well as approval of modifications to both Canadian and foreign products.
-Establishes and/or accepts applicants data reduction and expansions analysis methods necessary for certification approval and carries out analyses of quantitative flight test data.
-Examines, evaluates and recommends approval of all aspects of Aircraft Flight Manuals (AFMs), AFM Supplements and Master Minimum Equipment Lists (MMELs) and acts when required as chair person of MMEL Review Boards.
The results of this process will initially be used to staff one (1) position indeterminately.
A pool of qualified candidates will be established to staff similar positions with various tenures (indeterminate, term or acting basis), or various linguistic profile within Transport Canada in the National Capital Region.

Education :
Graduation from a recognized one year Flight Test Engineer course, or equivalent flight test experience obtained through comprehensive on-the-job flight test training.
AND
Graduation with a degree from a recognized university in an engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.
OR
OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION: Eligibility for certification as a professional engineer in Canada with specialization in an engineering specialty relevant to the position.
Note 1: Candidates will be asked to provide proof of education or eligibility for certification.
Experience :
EX1: Experience as a project Flight Test Engineer on a broad range of civil aircraft type certification and/or military aircraft programs.
EX2: Experience in the application of a broad range of engineering principles, theories and practices applicable to diverse areas of the design, certification and operation of aircraft.
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
In addition to the essential qualifications listed above, meeting the asset qualifications criteria may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed for specifics positions.
Experience:
AEX1: Experience in the interpretation of existing, and/or development of new certification requirements and advisory material.
AEX2: Experience in delivering formal presentations.

K1: Knowledge of the responsibilities of the Flight Test Division within the National Aircraft Certification Branch.
K2: Knowledge of the Canadian civil aviation industry and in particular of the design and development process of new civil aircraft types.

AA2: Ability to lead multidisciplinary project teams in the development of proposals to improve aviation safety.
Operational Requirements :
Must be willing and able to travel nationally and internationally as required.
Must be willing and able to work overtime and weekends as required.
Requires flying on all types of civil aircraft during certification test flights.
