WAITING PERIOD FOR REASSESSMENT
The retest period for assessment as a Correctional Officer is 180 days from the date of elimination at either the written exam or interview/reference stage of the process. The retest period for the psychological assessment is 2 years. If you submit an application before the retest period has elapsed your application will not be considered.

CORRECTIONAL OFFICER RECRUITMENT ALLOWANCE
As of April 9, 2019, Correctional Service Canada recruits receive an allowance* of $400/week, up to a maximum of $5,600 for 14 weeks, during the third stage of the Correctional Training Program (CTP). This allowance, paid bi-weekly, is in addition to the meal and hospitality fees already covered for recruits at this same CTP stage. Administrative procedures for payment of the allowance are initiated upon arrival at the Training Academy. *Individuals who receive a salary as a public servant are not eligible. Recruits who already receive a salary or financial compensation through another program while their participation at CTP are responsible to inform the parties concerned.

TRAINING
Candidates must be willing to undertake training at the Correctional Service Canada Training Academy (Kingston, ON).

Candidates who are found qualified will be considered for positions as they become available.

Work environment

Correctional Officers are essential to fulfilling the Correctional Service of Canada's (CSC's) mission of enhancing public safety by actively encouraging and assisting offenders to become law abiding citizens, while exercising reasonable, safe, secure, and humane control.

A pool of partially qualified candidates will be established for selection to attend the Correctional Training Program (CTP) to qualify for appointment to indeterminate CX-2 positions.

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION
The candidates must obtain and maintain a valid Standard First Aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) 'Level C' with automated external defibrillator (AED) certificate from a qualified provider approved by any province/territory in Canada, and in accordance with Part XVI of the Canada Occupational Health and Safety Regulations.

The candidate must successfully complete a CSC Correctional Training Program (CTP).

Graduation from a recognized post-secondary institution with a degree or a diploma in a field relevant to the work to be performed.
