Work environment

The PSC is located in a brand new building at 22 Eddy Street, in the heart of downtown
Gatineau. Our location is easily accessible and is located near Terrasses de la Chaudière and just
a few kilometers away from downtown Ottawa. Our facilities meet the new 2.0 office concept
and is WI-FI ready throughout the building. Our employees also have access to showers,
changing rooms and reserved spaces for bicycles, which is ideal for those wishing to travel to
work by bike, running or walking while using the nearby bike paths. Moreover, the PSC
launched in March, a pilot project for active workstations, which now enables our employees to
work while walking on treadmill or pedaling on stationary bike.

Intent of the process

PSC Strongly Supports Professional Growth
The PSC offers students support and information about future career path and advancement (furthering education, training, workshops, coaching, etc.).

A pool of qualified candidates may be established to staff identical or similar positions on an indeterminate or term basis with various linguistic profiles within the Public Service Commission in the National Capital Region and Halifax.

Unless otherwise specified experience constitutes a minimum of two years usually acquired working in each field, problem space, or with a particular technology.
Recent experience is defined as experience from within the past five years.

This pool may be used to staff similar positions in other organizations within the core public administration.

You must meet all essential qualifications in order to be appointed to the position. Other qualifications may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed. -Graduation with a degree* from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in computer science, information technology, information management or another specialty relevant to the position to be staffed.
*Degree: A baccalaureate or higher-level degree, as established by educational authorities, unless the type of credential is specified in the relevant Qualification Standard. A college diploma is insufficient to qualify.

EXPERIENCE:

-Experience conducting technical research and analysis in multiple areas of IT, and providing written technical advice, including recommendations, to various audiences.

Knowledge:

-Knowledge of the latest trends in IM/IT.
-Knowledge of open source software

Information on language requirements

Stream 1: Programmer/Analyst, Quality Assurance

-Experience developing, implementing, maintaining, and testing web applications in Java.
-Experience in performing testing and quality assurance related activities (including but not limited to test planning, functional and regression testing, defect reporting and tracking).
-Experience in creating, maintaining and executing tests using automated testing tools.

Stream 2: Analyst, Project Management

-Experience contributing to the creation or maintenance of an Information Technology (IT) project plan integrating activities from multiple Information Technology functions and units, including but not limited to: “Business Analysts, User Experience, Technical writer, Quality Assurance, Developers and Operations”
-Experience facilitating or leading consultations” with clients and stakeholders

Stream 3: Programmer/Analyst, Development

-Recent and significant experience with one or more general purpose programming languages, including but not limited to: Java, C/C++, C# and Python
-Recent and significant experience with relational databases and Structured Query Language (SQL)
-Experience with version control and automated build tools
-Experience in HTML/CSS and JavaScript.
-Experience writing unit tests

Stream 4: Infrastructure

Select 3 of the available options:
-Recent experience in developing, managing and supporting Microsoft Active Directory and Group Policies.
-Recent experience in developing, documenting and maintaining automated software installation scripts on Microsoft Windows 7, 10 or later.
-Recent experience in managing clients and creating application packages with Microsoft SCCM 2012 or later.
-Experience configuring, installing, and maintaining web servers (Examples: WebLogic or Tomcat)
-Experience troubleshooting enterprise level networking or infrastructure issues (slow nodes, connectivity issues)
-1 year of experience working with Platform as a Service, Software as a Service, Docker, or any container management platform such as OpenShift

Stream 5: Database Administrator

-Experience installing and upgrading the database server and application tools
-Experience with database and data recovery
-Experience in database issues troubleshooting
-Experience monitoring and optimizing the performance of the database

Stream 6: Technical Analyst, Change & Release Management

-Experience in documenting and analyzing software release, test plan results and deployment requirements
-Experience with desktop operating systems and support

Stream 7: Analyst, IT Security

-Experience in one of the following:
o IT security Incident Management
o IT security Investigation and reporting
o Vulnerability Management
