Intent of the process

A pool of candidates will be established and may be used to staff permanent and temporary vacancies within the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Gulf Regional offices located in Moncton NB (Bilingual Imperative position) and Charlottetown PEI (English Essential position).

EDUCATION
Graduation* with a diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution, with specialization in a biological science, natural science, or applied sciences specialization in a field related to the position.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
- Experience* in a laboratory conducting diagnostic screening or research projects involving molecular biology techniques e.g. Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), Reverse Transcriptase-PCR, real-time PCR; sequencing, bioinformatics.
- Experience* in the use of molecular biology equipment e.g. end-point thermocyclers, real-time thermocyclers, electrophoresis equipment, spectrophotometers.
- Experience* maintaining and preparing tissues for PCR assays, e.g. experience in DNA and/or RNA extraction.

* Experience must be work or internship related. Experience through classroom or education will not be considered.

EXPERIENCE
Experience working in an accreditated laboratory (e.g. ISO 17025 or other).
Experience doing fish necropsy.
Experience doing water filtration.
Experience with ultracentrifugation.
Experience designing PCR primers.
Experience with the manipulation and analysis of High Throughput Sequencing data.
Experience with sample preparation for High Throughput Sequencing analysis.
Experience doing statistical analysis e.g. analysis of variance.
Experience with the cell culture of eukaryotic cells.
Experience in DNA cloning and selection of transfected cells.
Experience using mapping tools e.g. ArcGIS.
Experience doing real-time PCR or RT-PCR.
Experience using LINUX.
Experience using softwares for the analysis of large datasets e.g. High-throughput sequencing data (or Next generation sequencing), microarrays, etc.
Experience performing ELISA assays.
Experience doing immunofluorescence.
Experience doing in situ hybridization.
Experience preparing scientific reports and publications.
Experience with handling live fish in an experimental setup.
Experience using a liquid handling robot.
Experience in the preparation of manuscript and scientific reports.
