Duties

The Technical Advisor Business Applications is responsible for researching, defining, analyzing, testing, developing and implementing new IT solutions and technologies for the Department of Finance. Part of a small team of subject matter experts, the Technical Advisor works in collaboration with the Project Delivery team to respond to clients’ strategic and operational needs. Moreover, the role involves operating and project delivery functions, working with the Desktop Solution team, IT Security and Shared Services Canada.

Work environment

The IM/IT division provides the Department of Finance with modern, mobile and collaborative tools and services to allow the Department to focus its strategies on developing policies and providing advice to the Government with the goal of creating a healthy economy for Canadians. The IM/IT division supports and operates an effective IT environment, constantly improving and evolving tools and solutions to support business functions. The department also works in close collaboration with Shared Services Canada to realize its IT functions.

A pool of qualified candidates may be established through this process to fill similar CS-03 positions within the Corporate Services Branch – Information Management and Technology Directorate through various tenures.

EDUCATION:

Bachelor degree (or above) in Computer Science, Engineering or Science.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:

Significant* and recent** experience in supporting Client/Server or Web based business applications in a production environment,

Significant* and recent** experience in deployment management of software releases in development, test and production environments.

Significant* and recent** experience using a recognized System Development Life Cycle methodology to manage applications.

Significant* experience providing technical support to end users.

* Significant experience is defined by the depth and breadth of the experience normally associated with having performed a broad range of various, complex activities which are normally acquired over a period of approximately three (3) years.
** Recent experience is defined as being within the last five (5) years.

KNOWLEDGE:

Knowledge of relational database design and Structured Query Language (SQL).
Knowledge of software Release and Deployment Management principles

ABILITIES:

Ability to analyze and resolve complex IT issues
Ability to work in a dynamic environment with multiple assigned projects and /or tasks Ability to communicate effectively orally
Ability to communicate effectively in writing

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
