Intent of the process

Anticipatory Selection Process

A pool of qualified candidates may be established within Transport Canada and may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures (including indeterminate / term).

You must meet all essential qualifications in order to be appointed to the position. Other qualifications may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed. Some essential and other qualifications will be assessed through your application. It is your responsibility to provide appropriate examples that illustrate how you meet each qualification. In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Education
ED1: A secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

Occupational Certification
OC1: Possession of a valid Canadian Airline Transportation Pilot License Aeroplane Category with a Group 1 Instrument Rating

OC1: Possession of a valid Restricted Radio-Telephone Operator Certificate (endorsed aeronautical).

Experience
EX1: A minimum of 3,000 hours of flight time on multi-engine turbine powered airplanes?

EX2: A minimum of 500 hours as a pilot in command of multi-engine turbine powered airplanes.

EX3: A minimum of 300 hours instrument flight time (150 hours must be actual).

EX4: Recent* experience as flight crew in operations in the Canadian Arctic.

EX5: Experience with deployments and remote operations away from a main base for extended periods of at least one week.

*Recent is defined as within the past 5 years.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

Asset Experience:
AEX1: Recent* experience flying aircraft on low-level surveillance/patrol operations in North America.

AEX2: Experience as an approved check pilot (ACP), a company training pilot or military equivalent whose duties include the evaluation of pilot competencies.

AEX3: Experience as pilot in command of a Dash 7 aircraft.

*Recent is defined as within the past 5 years.

Knowledge
K1: Knowledge of aircraft systems, performance and limitations.
K2: Knowledge of the purpose and legislative framework for the conduct of Transport Canada National Aerial Surveillance Program (NASP) reconnaissance flights.
K3:Knowledge of the Canadian Aviation Regulations and Standards governing the operation of Fixed Wing Aircraft under subpart 702 – Aerial Work.

ABILITIES
AB1: Ability to plan, organize and conduct surveillance flight operations in remote locations.

Conditions of employment

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Willing and able to undertake Underwater Emergency Egress Training.

Successful completion of requirements associated with the issuance of a Restricted Area Identification Card (RAIC) in order to obtain and maintain it.

Candidates must be willing and able to work overtime on short notice.

Candidates must be willing and able to travel by various modes to remote locations, domestically and abroad with typical crew assignments lasting three weeks.

Candidates must be willing and able to work in an aviation environment (i.e., noise, fumes, and hazards).

Possess and maintain a valid Canadian passport.
