The Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at the Royal Military College of Canada in Kingston, Ontario, invites applications for a position at the level of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor. The Department desires applicants with a recent PhD, or one nearing completion, in nuclear engineering or a closely related field.
This position is a bilingual position, which requires an ability to read, comprehend, communicate, and teach in both official languages (linguistic profile BBB/BBB). Should no candidate meet these requirements, an eligibility list may be established and candidates who apply for this competition may be assessed to staff similar positions with various language requirements. The candidate is expected to supervise MASc, MSc, and PhD graduate students and professional/technical research staff. Industrial or postdoctoral experience in nuclear engineering or nuclear reactor physics or a closely related field is desirable. Further, a research program that is compatible with those of our department and utilizes the unique research resources of our department (e.g., the SLOWPOKE-2 nuclear reactor) is desirable.
Starting salary will be in accordance with experience and qualifications and the appointment will be subject to a probationary period of three years. The Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at the Royal Military College of Canada in Kingston, Ontario, invites applications for a position at the level of Assistant Professor (in special cases, may be considered at the level of Associate or Full Professor). The Department desires applicants with a recent PhD, or one nearing completion, in nuclear engineering or a closely related field. The candidate should have a strong background in nuclear engineering fundamentals, and shall be able to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in chemical engineering and graduate level courses in nuclear engineering. The position is contingent upon the candidate obtaining a professional engineer license in Canada within four years of employment. The candidate must be able to establish and maintain an independent and competitively funded creative research program.
The Department is involved in research funded by national granting councils, other government agencies and industrial partnerships at an average level of $7M/yr. Current research activities in the nuclear engineering fields include: nuclear fuel design, reactor physics, nuclear materials, radiation protection, nuclear forensics and non-destructive testing. Education:
EDU 1 Undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering or a degree in a closely related field. Preference will be given to candidate with an undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering.
EDU 2 - Ph.D. (or one nearing completion – must be confirmed prior to appointment) from a recognized university in nuclear engineering or in a closely related field with research experience including publications in refereed journals devoted to nuclear engineering or closely related fields.
Occupational Certification:
OC1 The applicant should be a Professional Engineer in Canada, or eligible to be licensed as a Professional Engineer in Canada.
Experience:
E1 - UT02 positions: Candidates for appointment to this group and level must possess experience that would demonstrate evidence of effective teaching and scholarly** potential.
E2 - UT03 positions: Candidate must possess experience that would demonstrate satisfactory teaching effectiveness over a period of years and demonstrate independent scholarly** activity over a period of years beyond that of the PhD level.
E3 - UT04 positions: Candidate must possess experience that would demonstrate continued satisfactory teaching performance effectiveness over a period of years and demonstrate a continuing record of scholarly** achievements in his/her scholarly field or discipline and candidate should have experience in effective participation in service to a university.
**Note: Scholarly is defined as recent publications in refereed scientific journals in fields related to the position being staffed.
