To be considered for Research Affiliate Program (RAP) work opportunities, you must meet the following criteria:
Be recognized as having full-time student status by the post-secondary academic institution at which you are currently enrolled (proof will be required).
Be the minimum age to work in the province or territory where the job is located .
Due to the breadth of the projects undertaken by the National Hydrological Services the successful candidate will provide support and technical assistance in some or all of the following by:
• Contributing to the development of analytical approaches and evaluation techniques for reach specific hydraulic assessments.
• Contributing to collection and completion of data analysis
• Assisting with hydraulic and hydrological modeling
• Carries out research activities under office and/or field conditions
• Assisting in the maintenance of field equipment use for hydrometric monitoring

The National Hydrological Service - Water Survey of Canada (NHS-WSC) is the national authority responsible for the collection, interpretation and dissemination of standardized water resource data and information in Canada. In partnership with the provinces, territories and other agencies, NHS-WSC operates over 2800 active hydrometric gauges across the country. In addition the NHS supports the International Joint Commission providing technical support for water resources management.
Work will be conducted at the National Hydrological Research Centre in Saskatoon Saskatchewan, and will support activities in the area of Hydrometry and Hydraulics in support of project activities related to Hydrometric Infrastructure, Transboundary flow apportionment and reach specific hydraulic assessments using modeling approaches
The goal of these applied research projects is to support hydraulic assessments that will contribute to informed evaluations of alternative approaches and methods of flow measurement in riverine environments. The work will also support assessment of hydraulic conditions at gauging stations that have complex stage discharge relationships

Education:
Currently enrolled or eligible to be enrolled in a study program in a recognized post-secondary institution in one of the following areas:
Civil Engineering;
Environmental Engineering;
The candidate must be recognized as a full time post-secondary student in an accredited institution; preference will be given to candidate currently in a graduate-level program.
Experience:
Experience in remote field monitoring for water resources
Experience managing and processing data used for hydraulic modeling.
Experience running and interpreting results of 2-D hydraulic modeling
Experience with Python Scripting and/or MatLab

Reliability Status security clearance - Each student hired through the Research Affiliate Program (RAP) must meet the security requirements of the position as a condition of employment, and therefore will be asked by the hiring organization to complete security-relevant documents.
Valid driver’s license
Ability and willingness to travel on a weekly basis to field sites.
Known allergies must be controlled through the use of personal protective equipment and/or medication and must not impinge upon the duties to be performed.
With appropriate safety precautions in place, ability and willingness to work in remote field locations that may include working from boats, on the ice, wading in streams and/or traversing river banks carrying equipment that weighs up to 25 kg. .
Ability and willingness to work outdoors under various weather conditions that may include exposure to stinging insects (e.g., mosquitoes).
Ability and willingness to work at computer work station inputting, analyzing and/or preparing presentation material.
