ANTICIPATORY. A pool of qualified candidates will be established and may be used to staff similar positions with various language requirements and linguistic profiles, security requirements and/or tenures (indeterminate, determinate, deployment, assignment, secondment, acting and extensions) within Environment and Climate Change Canada in Edmonton (Alberta), Winnipeg (Manitoba), Yellowknife (Northwest Territories) or Regina (Saskatchewan).

Education
ED1. Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in ecology, toxicology or another science relevant to the position.

1. The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and must have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization.
Experience
EX1. Recent experience* leading or working in a team regarding the implementation or coordination of an environmental program, study, or project.
EX2. Recent experience* drafting written briefings, presentations or correspondence.
EX3. Recent experience* in collaborating with officials from the federal government, provincial/territorial government, Indigenous governments, municipal government, or industry on environmental protection issues.
EX4. Recent experience* in the design of, implementation of, review of, or provision of technical advice on aquatic science studies, or environmental management plans/programs.
EX5. Recent experience* in the analysis and interpretation of scientific, technical or biological monitoring data.
*Recent experience is defined as at least 1 year within the last 5 years.
Asset Qualification - Education
AED1. Post-graduate degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a natural, physical or applied science with a specialization in a field relevant to the position.
Asset Qualifications - Experience
AEX1. Experience in supervision.
AEX2. Experience in Indigenous or stakeholder consultations.
AEX3. Experience in contributing to the development of environmental policy and / or guidance documents.
AEX4. Experience in working with legal instruments related to environmental protection.
AEX5. Experience with environmental assessment or management for developments such as mining, municipal, oil sands, or other energy projects.

• Willing and able to travel for business requirements as needed on short notice.
• Must be available to make on-site visits to industrial facilities and remote field sites.
• Possession of a valid Driver’s license.
• Willing and able to work overtime; and at times work weekends, statutory/provincial/territorial holidays and irregular hours.
• Willing and able to obtain a pre-employment medical and maintain periodic medical clearance as required.

A pass mark will be established for each qualification. However, achieving the pass mark is not guarantee of an appointment or that candidates will be put through the next stages of the assessment process. A cut-off score (in other words, establishing a higher threshold than the pass mark and selecting only the candidates who meet this threshold) and a top-down approach (in other words, establishing a maximum number of candidates who can proceed to the next assessment stage) may be used at any step if there is a sufficient number of candidates to meet immediate and anticipated staffing needs.
