COMMON TO ALL STREAMS

ED1 - Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, aeronautical engineering, geological engineering, naval architecture or some other engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.

Degree equivalency

OC1 - Eligibility for certification as a professional engineer in Canada with specialization in an engineering specialty relevant to the position (some positions may require eligibility for certification as a professional engineer in Canada without regard for the field of specialization).

STREAM A: ENGINEERING MANAGEMENT

EX2 - Significant* experience in the application or enforcement of technical standards.

EX3 -Significant* experience in the application and/or verification of naval maintenance policy outlined in the Naval Engineering Manual, Naval Maintenance Management Systems (NaMMS) or Canadian Forces Technical Orders (CFTO).

EX4 - Experience of Management Information Systems to manage maintenance.

STREAM B : MARINE SYSTEMS ENGINEER

EX5 - Experience in reviewing and interpreting technical drawings.

EX6- Experience in the application of Mechanical or Electrical engineering theory to solve marine engineering problems.

EX7 – Experience roviding technical support in an engineering or maintenance organization.

EX8 – Experience in designing, developing or reviewing engineering changes and/or job instructions.

EX9 – Experience in designing, developing, implementing or conducting tests and trials for equipment specific to desired stream.

EX10 – Experience in Measuring, Monitoring or assessing the performance of equipment specific to desired stream.

STREAM C: NAVAL ARCHITECT

EX11 - Experience in the application of Naval Architecture or Ship Structures theory and principles to solve marine engineering problems and provide options.

EX12 - Significant* experience in the application or enforcement of technical standards.

EX13 - Experience in reviewing and interpreting technical drawings.

STREAM D: COMBAT SYSTEMS ENGINEER

EX14 - Experience in reviewing and interpreting technical drawings.

EX15 - Experience in the application of Mechanical, Electrical, or Computer Engineering theory to solve combat systems engineering problems.

EX16 - Experience providing technical support in an engineering or maintenance organization.

EX17 - Experience in designing, developing or reviewing engineering changes or job instructions.

EX18 - Experience in designing, developing, implementing or conducting tests and trials for equipment specific to desired stream.

EX19 - Experience in Measuring, Monitoring or assessing the performance of equipment specific to desired stream.

AK3 - Knowledge of Royal Canadian Navy organizations involved with engineering, maintenance, support, and operational activities.

AK4 - Knowledge of naval engineering and maintenance policies and their application in the Royal Canadian Navy.

STREAM D: COMBAT SYSTEMS ENGINEER

Knowledge of communications, sensors and/or weapons systems fitted on Royal Canadian Naval warships and/or submarines

COMMON TO STREAMS A AND B:

AA1 - Ability to plan and manage the operations of a multi-disciplined workgroup to conduct technical activities to a standard normally associated with a minimum of two years experience.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

OR1 - Able and willing to work overtime and be on call.

Able and willing to work in adverse conditions/environments, which may include, but not limited to; confined spaces, heights, extreme weather conditions;

Able and willing to work onboard ships and submarines while alongside and at sea, which may include alternate methods of air and sea transport to and from the ship, including transfer at sea procedures.

Able and willing to participate in training sessions, which may include OJT, self-study and training in classroom settings.

Able and willing to comply with applicable safety regulations and procedures, including wearing of appropriate personal protective equipment.
