Communications Officers in Web Services provide operational support for the Transport Canada (TC) digital presence which includes departmental content on Canada.ca, the Transport Canada Internet and intranet websites, and online applications.

In this role, you can expect to:
- manage the flow of content requests from clients as they relate to digital communications;
- publish news releases, photos, videos, and other communications products online to our various digital platforms;
- write, edit, and review website content;
- actively manage web content for clients to ensure that it is timely, accurate and relevant;
- ensure that TC websites comply with standards for style, accessibility, formatting, etc.;
- help integrate TC content as part of Canada.ca;
- liaise with IT partners to test applications and troubleshoot website functionality; and
- optimize the usability and accessibility of our web content, based on industry best practices and analytics.

EDUCATION
A degree from a recognized post-secondary institution.

NOTES:

2. At the manager's discretion, an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience, may serve as an alternative to the minimum education standard.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
- Recent and significant experience* in evaluating websites and other online products for quality assurance and compliance to standards
- Recent and significant experience* in maintaining, creating and publishing web products using HTML 5 or a similar markup language
- Experience in editing, proof reading and revising web content
- Experience in writing content that is suitable for online audiences (i.e. written for the web in plain language)
- Experience in analyzing web analytics and making recommendations to improve user experience

* Recent experience is defined as experience acquired in the last three (3) years. Significant experience is defined as having performed a broad range of various and complex activities over a consecutive two (2) year period in a related field. Candidates have to provide clear and specific examples in their application.

KNOWLEDGE

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Willingness to travel
- Ability to work overtime, evenings and weekends, with little advance notice
- Ability to work 7.5 hours per day between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. ET.
