Duties

At a high level, your goal as a senior advisor will be to impact our business in a way that demonstrates integrity, innovation and strategic thinking, that adds value to our team, client departments and agencies, and Canadians.

This is an exciting opportunity to expand and grow your proven track record of credible, innovative and practical strategic analysis and advice to leaders, in support of a Program for environmental remediation of multiple federal property sites across the Prairies and North including the largest contaminated site currently in Canada – Giant Mine.

Specifically, you will work in a dynamic environment to lead the strategic thinking, briefings and development of written and presentation materials to support advancing the work of the region and our clients. You will often represent Public Service and Procurement Canada in structured governance meetings and on-going relationship building with our client departments and external organizations. Environmental Services and Contaminated Sites Management (ESCSM) is a team of experienced environmental professionals dedicated to assisting federal departments and agencies in addressing a variety of environmental challenges in the Prairies and the North. The group routinely undertakes the role of environmental project managers, conducts a wide range of environmental project work and provides advice on regulatory and technical issues that protects health, safety and quality.

Intent of the process

This process will be used to staff an indeterminate position in Edmonton. A pool will be created to staff similar EC-06 positions in the Western Region and similar or identical positions with various tenures within the Department of Public Services and Procurement Canada.

Education:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in economics, sociology or statistics.

Note: Candidates must always have a degree. The courses taken for the specialization must be acceptable and may have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization. The specialization may also be obtained through an acceptable combination of education, training, and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
- Experience in independently preparing, with minimal guidance through to final versions, briefing materials, presentations, reports and other documents for senior management within short deadlines and in situations where clarity is lacking.
- Experience in verbally briefing senior management clearly and credibly on complex matters.
- Experience in establishing and maintaining strategic external and internal working relationships.
- Experience in leading research and analysis on program and policy issues in order to support the development of options, recommendations, and advice to senior management.

Knowledge:
- Knowledge of the economic, social, jurisdictional and environmental conditions in the Western Canada (comprised of Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba) and particularly in Canada’s North (comprised of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut).
- Knowledge of the priorities and objectives of Public Services and Procurement Canada and how those relate with the priorities and objectives of the Government of Canada.

– Experience consulting or collaborating with leadership in Indigenous organizations.
– Experience on contaminated site projects or programs
- Experience providing oversight on project status or program performance to ensure compliance and audit readiness.
