Risk Communications and Public Involvement Officer

Intent of the process

This is an anticipatory staffing process being done to create a pool of qualified candidates. This pool of qualified candidates may be used to staff similar positions with similar requirements.

You must meet all essential qualifications in order to be appointed to the position. Other qualifications may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed. Some essential and other qualifications will be assessed through your application. It is your responsibility to provide appropriate examples that illustrate how you meet each qualification. In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

- Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in a field relevant to the position, or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

- At least approximately 2 years’ experience in delivering training and/or outreach activities with an emphasis on the general public
- Experience in developing communication materials
- Experience in conducting or participating in research and/or initiatives related to public involvement best practices or strategies
- Experience working in collaboration with non-governmental organisations, industry representatives and/or other groups of interest

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

- Experience working with stakeholder groups (e.g. governments, territories, and Indigenous groups) north of 60

- Knowledge of best practices and risk communication protocols for challenging stakeholder situations
- Knowledge of the environmental health field
- Knowledge of the roles, responsibilities and policies of the federal government for public involvement and/or citizen engagement and/or stakeholder relations

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

- Possession of a valid Class 5 driver’s license.
- May be required to work overtime on weekdays or weekends.
- Willing and able to travel as required, including travel north of 60
- Small amounts of lifting and carrying presentation materials including but not limited to backdrops, posters, and brochures.
