Environmental Compliance (Stream 2):
Provides advice and guidance to the Regional Offices of Environmental Coordination, sectors, and management on the interpretation and application of environmental legislation, creates national procedures and protocols to help ensure compliance with this legislation, and develops, conducts and/or arranges national training on compliance issues.
Sustainable Development (Stream 3):
Provides advice and guidance to the Regional Offices of Environmental Coordination, sectors, and management and develops national procedures, and management frameworks in support of the Federal Sustainable Development Strategy and the Greening Government Strategy.

The Office of Environmental Coordination (OEC) is the Departmental lead on environmental management and related policy development and is the lead in developing the Department’s National Environmental Management System (EMS). The OEC provides advice, develops frameworks and tools, and coordinates efforts to comply with the Department’s Environmental Policy Statement, environmental regulations, federal policies and industry standard best management practices. There are three different business lines within the OEC: contaminated sites management, sustainable development, and environmental compliance. The duties associated with each business line are as follows:
Contaminated Sites Management (Stream 1):
Provides advice and guidance to the Regional Offices of Environmental Coordination, sectors, and management and develops procedures and tools in support of the management of the Departmental contaminated sites portfolio.
Environmental Compliance (Stream 2):
Provides advice and guidance to the Regional Offices of Environmental Coordination, sectors, and management on the interpretation and application of environmental legislation, creates national procedures and protocols to help ensure compliance with this legislation, and develops, conducts and/or arranges national training on compliance issues.
Sustainable Development (Stream 3):
Provides advice and guidance to the Regional Offices of Environmental Coordination, sectors, and management and develops national procedures, and management frameworks in support of the Federal Sustainable Development Strategy and the Greening Government Strategy.
The duties of other Environmental Management Advisor positions across Canada may vary.
The intent of this process is to staff 1 position in Ottawa, Ontario at this time in the contaminated sites management stream of work. However, a pool of candidates will be created and may also be used to staff similar positions across Canada, with various language requirements, security requirements and tenures (casual, term, and indeterminate).

PART I
EDUCATION
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, with an acceptable specialization in environmental science, biology, chemistry, or another science related to the position.
EXPERIENCE
Recent and significant* experience in the coordination and management of a variety of environmental issues, including in one of the following:
The management of contaminated sites; or
The conduct of environmental compliance activities, such as audits, compliance promotion and/or the development and implementation of environmental management systems; or
The development of plans or strategies related to sustainable development.
*Recent and significant experience is defined as 3 years of cumulative experience over the past 10 year period.
Experience in developing departmental inventories or data management, including performance reporting.
Experience coordinating the implementation and monitoring of departmental projects and programs.
PART I
All Streams: Experience in supervision
Stream 1: Experience in the implementation of the Federal Contaminated Sites Action Plan.
Stream 2: Experience in developing and/or implementing an Environmental Management System.
Stream 3: Experience in developing and/or implementing federal initiatives related to greening government operations in the context of the Federal Sustainable Development Strategy.

PART II
