• Perform quality control of documents translated from English (comparative editing) in accordance with French grammar and style and Statistics Canada terminology and publication guidelines.
• Translate short texts.
• Conduct terminology research for the purpose of checking technical, administrative, promotional and other communications documents and for standardization purposes.
• Work as part of multidisciplinary project teams.
A pool of qualified candidates may be created to staff similar or identical positions within the Statistics Canada with various linguistic requirements, tenures and security requirements.

Education:
A degree* from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in translation, French studies or linguistics.
*Degree: A baccalaureate or higher level degree, as established by educational authorities.
Experience:
Recent* and significant** experience translating texts and editing translated texts, primarily from English to French.
Recent* and significant** experience providing language advice.
Recent* and significant** experience performing terminological research.
* Recent experience is defined as experience normally acquired within the last five (5) years.
** Significant experience is defined as the depth and breadth of experience normally associated with full-time performance of a broad range of complex activities related to the duties of the position for a minimum of three (3) years.
Asset experience:
Experience creating terminology records.
Bilingual - Imperative (PCC/PPC)
Information on language requirements
Knowledge:
Knowledge of recognized principles and practices in the fields of translation and editing.
Knowledge of terminological and information resources.
Abilities:
Ability to work under pressure and within tight deadlines.
Ability to analyze English texts, detect any nuances and translate them into French and edit them.
Ability to communicate effectively orally.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing.

Operational Requirement
Regular working hours are between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
Ability and availability to work overtime on short notice.
Teleworking is not an option with this position.
