Education:

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a natural, physical or applied science with specialization in microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, biotechnology or in a field relevant to the duties of the position OR an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience relevant to the position.

Degree equivalency

Experience:

Experience in microbiology and molecular biology techniques for the detection and identification of bacterial or viral or parasitic pathogens.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS

Experience working* with foodborne pathogens in a laboratory setting
(*6 months or more)

Experience working with non-cultivable microorganism

Experience with cell culture techniques

Experience using genomic approaches including large dataset analysis

Information on language requirements

Knowledge:

Knowledge of methods for isolation, identification and enumeration of foodborne pathogens

Knowledge of emerging technologies and principles related to foodborne pathogen detection and identification.

Knowledge of foodborne bacterial, viral or parasitic pathogens and their safe handling.

Knowledge of current molecular, serological or biochemical techniques applicable in food microbiology

Abilities:

Ability to analyse and interpret experimental data.

Ability to set up and carry out laboratory procedures with limited supervision

Ability to adapt existing techniques

Ability to communicate effectively orally

Ability to communicate effectively in writing

Ability to work under pressure with shifting priorities under tight deadlines

A written examination will be administered.

Any written exams received after the scheduled return time will not be accepted without a reason acceptable to the managers of this process.

Candidates must meet the essential qualifications to be appointed to a position.
