Work environment

Are you a meticulous web publishing ninja who loves developing web pages and writing web content? If you just high kicked, while screaming “HI-YA!”, then this might just be the job for you.

We are looking for a motivated and creative individual to join our communications team at Western Economic Diversification Canada as a web publisher (IS-02). The ideal candidate will require experience in content development, editing and website development. The role is both hands on and strategic, with the successful candidate expected to write and implement code, as well as provide advice related to website design and development to the Department.

The intent of this anticipatory staffing process is to establish a pool of qualified candidates to fill positions of various tenures.

Education:
Successful completion of an accredited degree or diploma in Web Development or another specialty relevant to the position or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

Experience*:
Experience in web development.
Experience in coordinating and assisting with content development for webpages, intranet sites, SharePoint sites and others.
Experience in providing advice related to website design and webpage development.

*Experience indicates an accumulation of 1 year work experience within the last 5 years.

Information on language requirements

Knowledge:
Knowledge of communication trends and best practices for web accessibility and web design.
Knowledge of Windows, programming software, HTML editing software, programming languages including ASP, XHTML and CSS.
Knowledge of Government of Canada Communications policies and legislations such as the Communications Policy, Federal Identity Program, Official Languages Act, Access to Information Act and Privacy Act.

Competencies:
Demonstrating integrity and respect;

Working effectively with others; and
Showing initiative and being action-oriented.

The following may be applied / assessed at a later date (may be needed for the job)

Experience in developing web pages using either ASP, XHTML 1.0 Strict, Dreamweaver and CSS.
Experience in the design and development of electronic forms such as fillable Portable Document Format (PDF) forms.
Experience using analytic programs, such as WebTrends and Google Analytics, to run reports and prepare analysis of data.
Experience in providing technical support and troubleshooting problems.
