Duties

Coordinate operations aimed at the implementation of agreements concluded through various ministerial programs or various treaties between the federal government and Aboriginal groups;

Develop and, or, participate in the development of management plans for aquatic resources and ensure their implementation;

Serve as contact person and departmental representative regarding land claim agreements and consultations with Aboriginal organisations;

Establish and maintain an effective liaison between the department and Aboriginal organisations;

Organise and preside over workshops and training sessions.

Work environment

Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) leads the management of Canada’s fisheries and the safeguarding of Canadian waters. The Canadian Coast Guard (CCG), a Special Operating Agency within DFO, is responsible for services and programs that contribute to the safety, security, and accessibility of Canada’s waterways. With over 10,000 dedicated employees in over 400 locations across Canada, our Department is often the only federal presence in smaller coastal and remote communities.

The Fisheries and Oceans Canada building is located at 104 Dalhousie Street, in the heart of the Old Port of Québec, along the St. Lawrence River. This location offers easy access to restaurants, walking/running paths and parks, public market, etc. Employees have access to amenities such as showers, change rooms and secure bicycle storage, allowing them to commute using Québec City bike path system. Moreover, the Social Club of employees offers a programming according to the seasons.

EDUCATION

Degree from a recognized university with specialization in Administration, Economics, Environmental Science, Social Sciences, or another field of study related to the duties of the position.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE

Experience in providing advice to senior management* concerning programs, policies or issues;

Experience in consulting or collaborating with Aboriginal groups, stakeholders, co-management agencies or other levels of government;

Experience in analyzing complex issues and developing strategic advice.

* « Senior management » definition: leaders of a private, public, or community organization.

ASSETS

Master's degree from a recognized university with a specialization, such as biology, ecology, aquatic resource management, environmental, economics or social sciences, or another field of study related to the duties of the position;

Experience working with Aboriginal groups;

Experience in working with other departments or governments, and stakeholder groups, to resolve complex and sensitive issues;

Experience in managing grant or contribution programs;

Experience in representing an organization as part of a working group or a committee;

Experience in managing or coordinating a program related to the protection, conservation, and sustainable development of Canada's ocean and natural resources.
