Assessments will be conducted at locations of the employer's choice (DFO/CCG offices) and may require candidates to travel to the assessment location. Candidates will be required to pay for their own travel expenses when invited for assessment.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to create a pool of qualified candidates for future staffing. The
pool may be used to staff positions of various tenures (permanent or temporary). Please
note that this pool will only be used to staff positions at the Canso Canal in Port Hastings,
Nova Scotia.

You must meet all essential qualifications in order to be appointed to the position. Other qualifications may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed. In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION :
Successful completion of secondary school (high school) or employer-approved
alternatives.
The employer-approved alternatives to a secondary school (high school) diploma are:
o A satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative
to a secondary school diploma; or
o An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:
• Experience working as a Canal person.
• Experience dealing directly with the public.
• Experience performing minor maintenance of buildings , grounds and associated equipment.
• Experience working as a member of a team.
• Experience performing general administrative duties, such as (but not limited to) maintaining log books, statistics and completion of work related forms.
• Experience using a personal computer.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:
• Possession of a Restricted Radio Operators certificate.
• Possession of a Pleasure Craft Operators certificate or higher.
• Valid Certification in First Aid with CPR.
• Nova Scotia Class 5 driver’s license (minimum) or equivalent.
• Dangerous Goods Training/Certification.

ASSET EXPERIENCE:
• Experience in the operation of commercial lawn grooming equipment.
• Experience working as a member of the deck department on a commercial vessel.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
• Requirement to wear a CCG uniform.
• Requirement to work shift work (12 hour shifts) in a 24/7 operation from April 1 until December 24, yearly.
• Requirement to work a 12 hour shift on short notice to fill vacancies due to staff shortages.
• Requirement to wear protective footwear and clothing.
• A valid Health Canada Medical may be required (Under review).
