More specifically, we work with Canadians in all areas of the economy and in all parts of the country to improve conditions for investment. We enhance as well Canada’s innovation performance, increase Canada’s share of global trade and build a fair, efficient and competitive marketplace.
We also manage Canada’s airwaves and oversee Canada’s bankruptcy, incorporation, intellectual property and measurement systems; we provide financing and industry research tools to help businesses develop, import and export; we support scientific research; and we protect and promote the interests of Canadian consumers.
A pool of qualified or partially qualified candidates may be created to staff similar positions with various tenures (indeterminate, deployment, specified period, assignment, secondment), various security requirements and various language profiles. By default and in the interest of the greater public service, pools created as a result of collective staffing processes at ISED will be shared with other government departments.

EDUCATION
Streams 1, 2 and 3:
- Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in Economics, Sociology or Statistics.
* Acceptable specialization is at least one full year course or two half-year courses in in Economics, Sociology or Statistics.
EXPERIENCE
Streams 1, 2 and 3
Experience where you:
- Prepared and provided complex verbal and written briefings / reports, strategic advice and decision documents to senior management.
- Established and maintained harmonious relationships and networks of contacts, and built consensus with partners, and represented your organization by participating in various fora/committee.
- Led or coordinated various stages of a complex initiative or project.
- Led project teams, working groups and/or working level discussions of a multi-disciplinary nature to reconcile different viewpoints, to integrate and influence strategies and plans, and to recommend options to decision makers.
- You have at least two (2) years’ experience where you synthesized complex ideas, developed options and provided strategic advice and recommendations based on research or analysis to senior management.
COMPETENCIES AND KNOWLEDGE
Streams 1,2 and 3:
- Knowledge of relevant subject matter, as defined by duties of the position, such as legislation, policies and/or practices – demonstrates an understanding of relevant government legislation, and business, economic, social, legal and policy issues and practices, within the role of Industry Canada, related departments, other government organizations, and private sector stakeholder/partners.

EDUCATION
Asset qualifications for streams 1, 2 and 3:
- Graduation with a Master’s degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in economics, sociology, statistics, business/commerce, political science, public policy, mathematics or a related field.
- Bachelor’s degree in law.
- Bachelor’s degree in a STEM related field (such as engineering or information technology).
- Doctoral degree in Economics.
- Master degree in Economics.
EXPERIENCE
Asset qualifications for streams 1, 2 and 3:
- Experience in managing a team of professionals.
- Experience in one or more of the following policy / program areas:
• International trade or affairs
• Fiscal
• Competition or Consumer
• Industrial (related to aerospace, defense, auto, marine, science and research, life sciences)
• Innovation
• Technology
- Experience working with partners within and across Federal sector portfolios to advance initiatives.
- Experience working with partners within and across Provincial, Territorial or Private sector portfolios to advance initiatives.
- Experience in developing or proposing solutions or policy approaches to technology issues in areas such as: Information Communications Technology (ICT), the Internet, Critical Infrastructure resilience, cyber security, telecommunications.
- Experience in applying data visualization and design techniques for effective communication of information that supports evidence based decision making.
- Experience in large scale data management, Data Base Development, Data Mining or Data Analytics using tools such as SAS, SPSS, Python, SQL or R.
- Experience in conducting comparative analysis to provide advice and guidance.
- Experience in interpreting and implementing legislation or regulations.
- Experience in writing or coordinating the preparation of documents related to development or amendment of legislations or regulations.
- Experience in intellectual property.
- Experience in international affairs such as liaising, negotiating, working with stakeholders or representing an organization/company in international fora.
- Experience in developing economic models.
