Work environment

The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering of the Royal Military College of Canada in Kingston, Ontario, invites applications for tenure-track positions at the level of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor.

The Royal Military College is a bilingual university offering undergraduate and graduate programs in the humanities, sciences and engineering to members of the Canadian Forces and civilians at large.

Members of the department are involved in a wide range of research in the fields of Aero-Elasticity, Aerodynamics and Flight Dynamics; Fluid Dynamics and Turbulence; Control, Robotics, Guidance and Navigation; Bio-Mechanical Engineering; Combustion, Propulsion and Heat Transfer; Ionized Gases, Plasmas and Electric Spacecraft Thrusters; Design, Optimization and Manufacturing; Solid and Fracture Mechanics, Structures and Materials; Tribology. The department is accredited to offer BEng, MEng, MASc and PhD degrees. The typical teaching load of an indeterminate Faculty member is normally comprised of three undergraduate courses plus one graduate course per annum. In addition to teaching graduate courses in their area of expertise, Faculty members of the department may be expected to teach any undergraduate courses in the program, in the language(s) of their position.

Kingston is a beautiful and historic city at the confluence of Lake Ontario, the St. Lawrence River and the Rideau Canal system. Easily accessible from Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal, Kingston offers a diverse array of local music, art, history, theatre and live entertainment that attracts thousands of tourists annually. Education:

PhD, or having completed all requirements for a PhD, from a recognized university in Mechanical Engineering, or in Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering, or in a closely related discipline or having an equivalent degree.

Degree equivalency

Occupational Certification:
The applicant should be eligible to be licensed as a Professional Engineer in Canada.

Experience:

E1 – Acceptable teaching experience in engineering, as for example lecturer or teaching assistant.

E2 – Acceptable research experience demonstrated by a good or promising publication record in the aeronautical/aerospace field, specifically aircraft structures.

Education:
AQ1 – Undergraduate degree in Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.

AQ3 – Industrial or postdoctoral experience in the field of aircraft structures.

AQ4 – Supervision of undergraduate student projects/thesis.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

The application for a professional engineer license in Canada, and/or registration as an engineer in training (EIT), is required within the first two years of employment. The candidate then needs to obtain and maintain a professional engineer license in Canada.
