Process Details

There will be two (2) stages to the assessment process:
1. Online Application
2. Public Service General Competency Test.
Candidates who qualify in all assessment stages will be placed in a partially qualified pool. Hiring managers may then invite candidates on this list to participate in informal interviews or reference checks to fill positions.
Please note that we will proceed with a FINAL wave of candidate selection on October 4, 2018. Only candidates interested in bilingual positions will be considered. We could use a scoring method to select the candidates to be invited to continue with the evaluation process.
The Public Service General Competency Test in the National Capital Region will be take place on the following dates and times:
Thursday, October 18 2018 at 9 a.m. (in English)
Thursday, October 18 2018 at 1 p.m. (in French)
May include:
- Schedule and organize meetings, conferences, appointments, making logistical arrangements and coordinating the preparation of required documentation;
- With the use of a computer, tracks, controls and reviews the information coming in and going out of the executive ‘s office, including correspondence, emails, requests for information, as well as draft emails, correspondence and minutes of meeting;
- Receive and respond to telephone calls or refer callers to appropriate official for action;
And other related tasks.
ESDC delivers a range of programs and services that affect Canadians throughout their lives such as, providing seniors with basic income security, supporting unemployed workers, helping students finance their post-secondary education and assisting parents raising young children.
We design or deliver some of the Government’s well known programs or services such as:
Old Age Security, The Canada Pension Plan, Employment Insurance, Canada Student Loans and Grants, The Canada Education Savings Program, Passport Services, The Wage Earner Protection Program and Federal Mediation and Conciliation Services.
We are currently looking for dynamic and motivated individuals to fill various administrative positions within the department. As an assistant, you will provide administrative support services.

What is the application process?

During the application process, you must upload your resume and answer a series of screening questions. The online application may take 2-3 hours to complete. The questionnaire will assess the essential and asset education; essential experience; essential competencies; as well as the asset experiences.
You may review the status of your application in your online account. Your application in this inventory will be active for 120 days. A notice that your application is about to expire will be posted to the “My jobs” menu of your account 21 days before the end of your active period. If you do not take action, your application will no longer be active and therefore no longer considered for this inventory. Should your application become inactive while the process is still open, a notice will be posted to your account indicating that your application has expired; you may select the link “Update my Inventory” status to reaffirm your interest.
You can only apply to this process once. If you are pulled from this inventory and are unsuccessful during the assessment phase, your application will not be given any further consideration for the duration of this inventory process.

How will the exam be administered?

Selected applicants must successfully write the Public Service General Competency Test at a Public Service Commission Testing Centre located in Vancouver, Toronto, Gatineau, Montreal and Halifax. Travel to one of these centers may be required on short notice.
Please note that candidates (including employees of the Public Service) will not be considered to be in travel status or on government business and that travel costs will not be reimbursed. Consequently, candidates will be responsible for travel costs.
Candidates will be required to pay for all travel and relocation expenses related to this process, including travel expenses for assessment purposes. Candidates who fail to attend the assessment may not be considered further in this process. Please note that testing may be administered during the day, evenings or weekends.

You must provide proof of your education during the assessment phase. Candidates with foreign education credentials are required to provide proof of Canadian equivalency. Any applicable fees are the responsibility of the candidate.
