Intent of the process

ANTICIPATORY STAFFING...A pool of qualified candidates will be established and may be used to staff positions on an indeterminate, term, casual or acting basis. Candidates must clearly identify which location(s) (Dartmouth, St. John's or both) they are applying for. If appointed to a position, the location associated with the position will become the employee's homeport and travel to and from the homeport will be the employee's responsibility. A candidate may change / update the location he/she is applying for at any time prior to being offered a position resulting from this process.

You must meet all essential qualifications in order to be appointed to the position. Other qualifications may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed. Some essential and other qualifications will be assessed through your application. It is your responsibility to provide appropriate examples that illustrate how you meet each qualification. Failing to do so could result in your application being rejected.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Possession of valid Marine Emergency Duties certificates (STCW Basic Safety [A1 & B2] + Proficiency in Survival Craft & Rescue Boats other than Fast Rescue Boats [B1]

A valid Transport Canada STCW 95 endorsed Bridgewatch Rating Certificate.

A valid Transport Canada STCW 95 endorsed Marine Navigation Certificate of Competency.

A valid TC Fishing Master Certificate of Competency.

Experience as a deckhand onboard a fishing vessel.

Experience as a deckhand/mate on a Coast Guard vessel.

Experience on seagoing vessels.

Training in Small Craft Training or RHIOT

Organizational Needs

Membership in one of the designated Employment Equity groups.

Operational Requirements

Requirement to work overtime when required.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

. Valid Health Canada Medical for seagoing personnel
. Requirement to go to sea for prolonged periods of time (including Arctic Waters) and in adverse weather conditions
. Requirement to wear and maintain a uniform and Personal Protective Equipment to Coast Guard standards
. Compliance with the CCG Safety Management System and Standards
. Adherence to Canadian Coast Guard Respiratory Protection Program
. Willingness to be deployed within the Atlantic Region
. Valid Canadian Passport (for identified positions).
. For vessels assigned primarily to Search and Rescue operations, must be within 30 minutes response time to the vessel during assigned work period.
. Must be willing and able to travel by air, land, or by sea.
