Duties

This position is responsible for planning, organizing, preparing for and delivering established training sessions in safe firearms handling, safety, marksmanship shooting, and shooting and skill development in a virtual Range. This position is also responsible for Judgment Training in the Synthetic Environment where law and policy in use of force decision making are covered as well as Articulation of the transpired events. This training is delivered to RCMP Regular Members, cadets and other Law Enforcement Agencies such as Fisheries and Oceans, Federal Parks, Canadian Border Services, and Canadian Corrections Services.

Intent of the process

The immediate need is to staff one position on an indeterminate basis with a bilingual linguistic profile of BBC.

A pool of candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions within the RCMP in Saskatchewan on an indeterminate or specified period basis, with various linguistic profiles.

A secondary school diploma; or a satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

Successful completion of the RCMP Basic Firearms Instructors Course and/or the RCMP Firearms Instructor Program

First-hand experience in firearms training as a Police officer with the RCMP or other recognized Police Agency or Canadian Military

Experience as a Police Officer or Military Police

Must complete an annual recertification on all three of the RCMP issue Firearms (Shotgun, Pistol and Rifle)

Must successfully complete the IFTC (Instructional/Facilitation Techniques Course)

Conditions of employment

Security Clearance: Royal Canadian Mounted Police Enhanced Reliability Status

Willing and able to instruct in a firearms environment

Willing and able to instruct in a simulated firearms training environment

Willing and able to provide live shooting demonstrations

Willing and able to work evenings and/or weekends.

Willing and able to use the prescribed PPE while performing the work activities of a firearms instructor in the work place. (Employees shall be provided, trained and fit tested where necessary, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required by Section XII of the Canada Occupational Health & Safety Regulations, as prescribed by the Canada Labour Code, Part II.)

The successful candidate will be required to provide original documentation of proof of Canadian Citizenship prior to appointment. Other candidates may also be asked to provide this documentation at various stages in the selection process. The following documents will be accepted as proof: Provincial or territorial birth certificate; Naturalization certificates (issued prior to Jan. 1, 1947); Registration of Birth Abroad certificates (issued between Jan. 1, 1947 and Feb. 14, 1977); Certificates of Retention; Citizenship certificates.

Candidates will be required to show original proof of education. Candidates with foreign credentials must provide proof of Canadian equivalency. Consult the Canadian Information Centre for International Credentials for further information at http://www.cicic.ca/.

You may be assessed using one or more of the following tools: standardized tests, written exams, interview, simulation exercise, reference check, and other assessment tools.

Testing/interviews will be conducted at the location of the employer's choice

The successful applicant will have to obtain, as a minimum, an RCMP Enhanced Reliability Status security clearance. The process also requires a Security/Reliability Interview, a field investigation in matters of credit/finances, education, employment, references, etc.

Security Requirements – This process involves a security interview and background investigation covering a minimum of your last 5 years of history including credit and financial verification. A criminal record check will be completed. Substance abuse is a factor that will be assessed.
