Anticipatory Staffing - A pool of qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff this position, similar positions, or lower level positions in the Canadian Coast Guard - Atlantic Region.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION:
• Successful completion of secondary school (high school)

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:
• *Recent and **significant experience in the maintenance, installation and inspection of communication towers up to 300ft in height.

*Recent is defined as within the last 3 years
**Significant is defined as at least 6 months

Candidates are required to have experience in all three areas (maintenance, installation, and inspection) in order to meet the experience requirement. Failure to demonstrate experience in all three areas (by providing concrete examples) may result in your application being screened out.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience in the maintenance of aids to navigation structures.
• Experience in the installation of aids to navigation structures.
• Experience in the inspection of aids to navigation structures.
• Fall arrest and tower rescue certifications.

The following will be applied / assessed at a later date (essential for the job)

KNOWLEDGE:
• Knowledge of electrical work methods and radio frequency principles.
• Knowledge of standard safety work practices as related to climbing high structures.
• Knowledge of pulse charts as related to guy tensioning.
• Knowledge of steel structures and fabrication techniques.

ABILITIES:
• Ability to communicate effectively , both orally and in writing.
• Ability to perform onsite inspections and prepare reports.
• Ability to use computer programs (such as MS Word, MS Outlook, MS Excel, email and Internet).

• Effective Interpersonal Skills

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

OTHER CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Requirement to travel to remote locations for extended periods of time.
• Requirement to travel to remote locations via helicopter, ship, small boat, ATV and snowmobile.
• Health Canada medical clearance.
