Duties

Some of the duties that you can be expected to perform in this position may include, but are not limited to:
•performs infrastructure inspections and initiates reports identifying requirements and deficiencies to determine maintenance and capital replacement budgets.
•provides inspection on maintenance, construction and service contracts.
•prepares scopes of work, specifications and estimates for renovations and new construction projects.
•schedules construction projects and coordinates the contract activity for the client.
•certify completion of work and recommend payment.
•reviews designs and performs plans examination to determine and ifentify potential problems.
•provides expert technical advise on aspects of the ontario building code and construction trade practice including installation of specialized hardware and equipment.
•provides advise on contracting methods and tendering process.
•evaluates contractor performance.
•prepares criteria and evaluates bid documents for proposal tenders.

Intent of the process

There is an immediate need to staff three (3) indeterminate positions; one (1) in North Bay, ON and two (2) in Borden, ON. A pool of qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures.

Experience:
EX1 – ***Recent experience applying construction and maintenance related codes, standards, and material.
EX2 – ***Recent experience using computers for communication, researching and documenting information.
EX3 – ***Recent experience using Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.

***Recent is defined as acquired in the last five (5) years.

Information on language requirements

Education and Occupational Certification:
Successful completion of at least a 2 year post-secondary education program in one or more of the following related fields:

- Construction Engineering Technician / Technologist(Various Disciplines);
- Project Management;
- Business Management; and
- Law.

OR

ED/OC 1-2 – Successful completion of secondary school education, or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

AND

Possession of a certificate of qualification from a recognised provincial authority (E.g. Ontario College of Trades, TSSA, etc.), or equivalent*** in one or more of the following fields:

- General Carpenter;
- Electrician – All types less Domestic and Rural;
- Refrigeration and Air conditioning Systems Mechanic;
- Plumber;
- Powerline Technician;
- Steamfitter / Pipefitter;
- Sheet Metal Worker;
- Industrial Electrician;
- Sprinkler and Fire Protection Installer;
- Construction Millwright;
- Gas and Oil Technician (equivalent to TSSA G2 / OBT2 or higher);
- Petroleum Mechanic;
- Operating Engineer (equivalent to TSSA 3rd Class or higher);
- Instrumentation and Controls Technician; and
- Water Treatment and Distribution Systems.

**Equivalent is defined as the military construction engineer trades qualification QL6A or higher

Abilities:
A1 – Ability to effectively communicate orally.
A2 – Ability to effectively communicate in writing.

AQ3 – ***Recent Experience working in a Construction Engineering Branch of a Canadian Forces Base.
AQ4 – ***Recent Experience in managing contracts for construction or maintenance services.

- Willing and able to work from ladders, catwalks, scaffolding, roofs and motorized manlifts, reaching, stretching, climbing and bending;
- Willing and able to crouch, crawl, stoop and bend while inspecting confined spaces, excavation sites, vessels, etc; and
- Willing and able to work in hot and cold environments for extended periods of time.
