Duties

Consults Agency staff to confirm the information provided and obtain additional details to write or edit documents in French or translate documents from English to French.

Drafts the French version of various documents and reports, or edits and corrects the French version of correspondence and other documents drafted by employees at the Agency's Head Office or regional offices, as well as annual reports and other publications produced by the Agency. Identifies recurrent problems and proposes solutions to improve the quality of documents.

Ensures French-language rules and style and quality standards of the Agency are applied by various writers and provides advice on French-language grammar and style to Agency staff.

Ensures a wide variety of documents for in-house and general distribution are reviewed for quality.

Assists in the development and issue of various correspondence reference documents and linguistic tools used by Agency employees and the Correspondence and Translation Unit.

Provides French-language translation services Agency-wide, namely translates from English to French correspondence and other documents, some of which may be sensitive or urgent. Also assists the Agency in meeting its parliamentary affairs requirements, and supports the Offices of the President and the Minister.

Ensures quality and efficiency of freelance translation services and other external
services.

Facilitates workshops and awareness sessions on correspondence and translation services.

Intent of the process

Anticipatory - The intent of the process is to establish a pool of candidates which may be used to staff positions with various tenures (temporary or/and permanent) at ACOA’s head office in Moncton (New Brunswick) or in one of ACOA’s regional offices in Fredericton (New Brunswick), Halifax, (Nova Scotia), Charlottetown (Prince Edward Island) or St. John’s (Newfoundland and Labrador). Potential employees may work from one of the cities listed depending on the position to be staffed.

EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree in translation from English to French from a recognized post-secondary institution.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:
- Recent and significant* work experience in the translation of documents from English to French in a professional context with little or no supervision.
- Experience in writing and editing documents in French.
- Experience in working in an environment focusing on high standards of quality and tight deadlines.
- Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and web-based tools as well as translation-related tools (i.e. databases, memories).

*Recent and significant experience means experience acquired through the performance of a range of related activities in the field of work in question. Such experience would normally have been acquired over a minimum period of 5 years in the last 8 years.

Certification from a professional translator’s association (translation from English to French).

EXPERIENCE:

- Experience in translating from English to French for a government organization.
