Work environment

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is a key player in public safety. We are responsible for the supervision and reintegration of offenders serving sentences of two years or more. On a typical day, we manage approximately 15,000 offenders placed within our 43 institutions and more than 8,500 offenders under supervision in the community.

Intent of the process

This is an anticipatory selection process. This process will be used to establish a pool of candidates that may be used to staff similar positions with various language proficiencies (Bilingual Imperative CBC/CBC, Bilingual Imperative BBB/BBB, English Essential and French Essential) and various tenures (Indeterminate, Term, Casual) within the National Headquarters of Correctional Service Canada.

EDUCATION

- A secondary school diploma OR an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE

- Experience conducting research and analysis of legislation, policies and/or political or media issues.
- Experience providing advice or guidance to management* on matters related to communications, government policy or parliamentary affairs.
- Experience coordinating official responses on behalf of an organization, such as, but not limited to, responses to citizens, clients, outside stakeholders, Parliament, and/or the media.

*Management is defined as manager level and above.

- Experience in researching or analyzing legislation and policies related to the criminal justice system.

ORGANIZATIONAL NEEDS:

Placement of Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) employees affected by workforce adjustment.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to work overtime on short notice.
This position may require work outside the normal office environment, participation in meetings or special events, and could involve travel to urban and remote government and non-government locations.

Asset qualifications could be used at the screening stage. A person may be appointed even though he/she does not meet any or all of the asset qualifications. However, it may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed.

A top down selection of candidates may be used in the determination of those to be given further consideration in the assessment process.
