This position is located in Iqaluit, Nunavut. The salary range for this position is $96173- $112997, plus northern allowance and vacation travel assistance. The Impact Assessment division coordinates the department's input into the environmental assessment of projects under review in Nunavut.
The successful candidate will assume the leadership of INAC’s participation in environmental assessment in Nunavut Territory, leading to informed decision-making for development project approvals.
He or she will also have to provide professional support, consultation, information and advisory services with respect to environmental assessment in Nunavut.

The intent of this process is to staff a permanent position and to create a pool of qualified candidates to staff positions within Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada, and other federal departments and agencies in the North. The pool will be valid for a period of one (1) year and could be used to staff similar permanent or temporary positions.
The pool could be used to offer acting appointments, assignment, secondment or deployment in order to protect employee's indeterminate status.
Please note that the initial validity period of the pool will be one year with possibility of extension.

EDUCATION
• Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, with acceptable specialization in physics, geology, chemistry or some other science relevant to the position.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
EXPERIENCE
• Experience in identifying, analyzing or advising upon regulatory requirements pertaining to impact / environment assessment, water management, or enforcement.
• Experience analysing, developing or implementing water quality or quantity monitoring programs.
• Experience in consulting or negotiating about non renewable resource issues with other levels of government, aboriginal groups, or other stakeholders.
• Experience working in a Northern environment.
• Experience working in a multi-cultural environment, specifically as it relates to Inuit culture and values.
KNOWLEDGE
• Knowledge of the Northern biophysical, cultural, political or economic environment.
• Knowledge of Canadian federal or provincial legislative, policy or regulatory responsibilities, especially related to the northern environment.
ABILITIES
• Ability to coordinate socioeconomic reviews of development proposals.
• Ability to communicate in Inuktitut.
ORGANISATIONAL NEEDS
Indigenous Peoples: Preference given to candidates self-identifying as Inuit enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement.
