Intent of the process

The intent of this selection process is anticipatory. A pool of qualified candidates may be established to staff similar positions with various language requirements and various tenures within Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (indeterminate, term, deployment, acting, secondment or assignment).

You must meet all essential qualifications in order to be appointed to the position. Other qualifications may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed. In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Education:

Successful completion of an acceptable training program in electronics technology OR an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Completion of the Canadian Fire Alarm Association (CFAA) Fire Alarm Technician Training Program and currently registered as a Fire Alarm Technician in good standing with the CFAA.

Degree equivalency

Experience:

Minimum 10 years’ experience in the installation, programming, verification, testing, troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of electronic fire alarm systems and related peripherals;
Minimum 2 years’ experience in the installation, programming, testing, troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of electronic security alarm, access control and video management systems and related peripherals;
Experience in the integration of fire and security systems with automated public alerting systems and software.

Knowledge:

Knowledge of legislated safety practices and procedures.

Ability to read and prepare schematics;
Ability to maintain and repair electronic fire and security equipment.

Asset:

Experience with complex fire alarm systems and in particular the Edwards EST3 series fire alarm controllers and FireWorks software.

Operational Requirements:

Ability to work overtime;
Ability to work in adverse weather conditions on occasion.
