Duties

Delivery of occupational nursing services to clients in the Region, as well as, travel medicine nursing services in the NCR Clinic. Current services include occupational health (OH) evaluations (pre-placement and periodic evaluations, communicable disease screening and advice, immunizations, coordination of fitness to work (FTW) evaluations, and in the NCR Clinic, other travel medicine services. Clients include federal departments and agencies subject to Part II of the Canada Labour Code and the Canada Occupational Safety and Health (COSH) Regulations; under the Treasury Board Secretariat (TBS), Public Service Health Program (PSHP), as well as other federal government organizations, not under the TBS – PSHP but with whom a letter of agreement has been established for service delivery.

Intent of the process

Initially this process will be used to staff the following positions on a permanent basis:
- Victoria, BC (English Essential);

A pool of qualified candidates will be established and may be used to staff similar positions within the Public Service Occupational Health Program of Health Canada in locations across Canada, on a permanent or temporary, full-time or part-time basis.

EDUCATION:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in nursing OR a Certificate or Diploma in Occupational Health Nursing from a recognized post-secondary institution.

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION
Eligibility for registration as a registered nurse in a province or territory of Canada.

EXPERIENCE
*Recent and significant experience in the direct provision of disability management services.

**Experience in the direct provision of immunizations.

*Recent and significant experience is understood to mean the depth and breadth of the experience normally associated with having performed a range of activities related to this task which was acquired over a period of at least one year within the last five years.

**Experience is understood to mean the depth and breadth of the experience normally associated with having performed a range of activities related to this task which was acquired over a period of at least six months.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION
A Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree or Diploma in Adult Education from a recognized post-secondary institution.

EXPERIENCE
**Experience in the direct provision Tuberculin Skin Tests (TSTs)

**Experience in the direct provision of occupational audiometry.

**Experience in the direct provision of occupational spirometry.

**Experience in the direct provision of occupational health assessments.

ORGANIZATIONAL NEEDS

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
For certain positions, incumbents must be a member in good standing as a registered nurse in the additional provinces or territories where the work is required and performed.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

Current registration in good standing as a registered nurse in the province or territory where the position is located.
Possession of a valid driver’s license or personal mobility to the degree associated with possession of a valid driver’s license (such as public transportation).
Ability to manually lift and carry equipment safely to a maximum of 20 kg when travelling from the office location to deliver services.
Overnight and same day travel from the office location to a variety of work sites to deliver services is a requirement of this position.
Due to operational requirements, teleworking arrangements are not permitted.
Willingness to adjust work hours on occasion based on operational needs; may be required to work overtime on weekdays or weekends.
Willingness to wear personal protective equipment (PPE).
