Duties

The duties will be to conduct project planning to determine requirements, and advise on construction, repair, maintenance, and refit methods and materials and to establish specifications for evaluating these projects. To provide technical advice concerning all engineering disciplines pertaining to renovation and refit projects and to provide sound advice to clients in support of their accommodation and end user requirements. To produce project designs, cost estimates and specifications as well as the necessary project documents for the contracting and tendering processes. The incumbent will arrange for hiring of professional contractors and consultant engineers and will review project proposals prepared by private contractors from a technical perspective and recommend acceptance or rejection. The duties also include managing staff and project teams of both in-house and private sector resources and ensures compliance with project specification, building codes and health and safety regulations.

The project management administrative work is conducted on the Central Experimental Farm, Ottawa in a centralized open concept space. Work is carried out within the administration, laboratory and greenhouse facilities located through the Central Experimental Farm site. The work conducted provides for the delivery of project management services to multiple clients throughout the Central Experimental Farm in support of their science research and administrative mandates.

Intent of the process

A pool of qualified candidates may be established and may be used for similar permanent and temporary employment for the location indicated for this process.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in one of the following fields: construction project management, civil, architectural technology or related commercial building technology;
OR
A secondary school diploma AND an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience in a field relevant to position in the group.

Degree equivalency

Significant* and recent** experience in the delivery of construction and renovation projects in commercial buildings following industry standards.

Significant *and recent** experience in management of contractors/consultants.

Experience in the supervision of subordinate staff carrying out construction project management services in commercial buildings.

Experience in the use of AutoCAD for construction project design development purposes.

*Significant Experience refers to the depth and breadth of experience normally acquired over a period of at least three (3) years, full time.
**Recent experience refers to experience acquired within the last 6 years.

Degree in Architectural Engineering from a recognized post-secondary institution.

Certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP) from the Project Management Institute (PMI).

Certification as a Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) from the Project Management Institute (PMI).

Master Certificate in Project Management.

Degree equivalency

Experience in construction project management delivery in Heritage or Laboratory buildings.

Knowledge of Government of Canada (GOC) contracting administration, regulations/practices
and procurement procedures/policies.
