The intention is to staff one PC-03 position indeterminately and one PC-03 position for a 12-month term. Pools will be established that may be used to staff potential term, indeterminate, assignment, secondment, acting or deployment positions in Dartmouth, NS or St. Andrews, NB.

Education:
- Graduation with a degree from a recognized university, with acceptable specialization in physics, mathematics, engineering or some other science relevant to the position.
Experience:
PC-02 AND PC-03
- Experience working in the field of physical oceanography or other relevant physical science.
- Experience in using modern computer programming or scripting languages for scientific purposes.
- Experience in analysis of data using modern scientific software packages, such as, but not limited to R, Python or MATLAB.
- Experience in writing scientific reports or publications
PC-03 ONLY
- Experience in organizing and undertaking assigned scientific research projects.
- Experience providing scientific advice related to assigned scientific projects.
- Experience as lead author of science publications in a physical sciences context.

Information on language requirements
Knowledge:
PC-02 AND PC-03
- Knowledge of the basic principles and practices of physical oceanography.
- Knowledge of methods and procedures for processing of oceanographic data.
- Knowledge of the basic principles and methods of statistical analysis.
PC-03 ONLY
- Knowledge of the operating principles of modern oceanographic instrumentation.
- Knowledge of the physical oceanography of the Northwest Atlantic.

Education:
- Graduation with a M.Sc. or Ph.D. from a recognized university, with acceptable specialization in physics, mathematics, engineering or some other science relevant to the position.
Experience:
- Experience in the operation of oceanographic instrumentation packages and computer-based control systems as used aboard modern research vessels on missions for physical data collection.
- Experience in quality control processing of oceanographic, meteorological, or other environmental data.
- Experience in time series and spectral analysis of oceanographic data.
- Experience in scientific software development, computer programming, testing and debugging in support of scientific research projects.
- Experience in scientific data management, database design and access of scientific data types.
- Experience in the development and deployment of scientific data products on Web platforms.
- Experience working with remote sensing or satellite data types.
- Experience in administration of the Linux operating system
- Experience in utilizing and/or developing parallelized computer programs for shared or distributed CPU and memory computers.
- Experience in ocean circulation modelling.
- Experience on an oceanographic research expedition of at least 7 days duration.
