Depending on ice conditions and vessel activity, the Canadian Coast Guard Atlantic Regional Ice Office can be a busy, and sometimes stressful location.
Ice Officers are required to work 12 hour shifts, and maintain an “on-call” status after their normal working day. Due to these conditions, Ice Officers will generally work a one-week on, one-week off schedule.
Schedules can be changed with minimal notice, and successful candidates should be prepared to work evenings/nights, or weekends when required.
The intent of this process is to create a pool of candidates to staff immediate vacancies and future opportunities.
The pool of candidates may be used to staff similar positions (including lower level positions) on a term basis, including casual employment and with various security requirements.

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
Valid Watchkeeping Mate, Transport Canada Certificate of Competency
EXPERIENCE:
Experience* as a Navigation Officer navigating through ice covered waters (Minimum of approximately two weeks experience).
* Discharge books may be requested to validate experience.
ABILITIES:
Ability to communicate effectively orally

Asset Qualifications:
