The Department of History of the Royal Military College of Canada in Kingston, Ontario invites applications for tenure-track positions at the level of assistant professor and associate professor.
The Royal Military College is a bilingual university offering undergraduate and graduate programs in the humanities, sciences and engineering to members of the Canadian Forces and civilians. The department offers undergraduate degrees and is a vital contributor to the War Studies graduate program, which grants degrees at the MA and PhD levels. Members of the department are currently involved in a wide range research in the fields of military, international, and social history, much of which is funded by national granting councils. Kingston is a beautiful and historic city at the confluence of Lake Ontario, the St. Lawrence River and the Rideau Canal system, and is easily accessible from Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal. Kingston offers a diverse array of local music, art, history, theatre and live entertainment that attracts thousands of tourists annually. Kingston has also been designated as a bilingual city by the Government of Ontario.
The immediate need of this selection process is to fill one position on an indeterminate basis at the Royal Military College of Canada, a university within the Department of National Defence.
THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL BE EXPECTED TO TEACH IN ENGLISH.

You must meet all essential qualifications in order to be appointed to the position. Other qualifications may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed. Education:
A Ph.D. in History or War Studies from a recognized post-secondary institution.
For all levels of positions:
E1: Acceptable teaching experience at the university level in at least two of the following fields:
a) International History
b) History of a region other than North America
c) Military History
E2: Acceptable research experience* at the university level in at least two of the following fields:
a) International History
b) History of a region other than North America
c) Military History
*Acceptable research experience is defined by publication in peer reviewed journals or academic presses.
In addition to E1 and E2, the various UT levels require the following:
For Assistant Professor (UT02) position:
E3: Experience that would demonstrate evidence of scholarly** potential.
For Associate Professor (UT03) position:
E4: Experience that would demonstrate effective teaching at the university level in the fields related to the position being staffed over a period of years.
E5: Experience that would demonstrate independent scholarly** activity over a period of years in a field related to the position being staffed.
**Scholarly is defined as publishing in refereed journals or academic presses in fields related to position being staffed.
Asset Qualifications:
AQ1: Experience in supervision of undergraduate and/or graduate student projects and theses.
AQ2: Teaching experience at the university level in at least two of the following fields:
a) International History
b) History of a region other than North America
c) Military History
AQ3: Scholarly activity and potential in at least one of the following fields:
d) International History
e) History of a region other than North America
f) Military History
Note: Scholarly activity and potential for AQ3 will be assessed in terms of the quantity and rate of peer-reviewed publications.
AQ4: Experience with university administration.
AQ5: Ability to develop an independently-funded research program.
