Canadian Heritage is looking for a Building Systems Technician at the Canadian Conservation Institute to join the team that provides operation and maintenance of the facility at 1030 Innes Road in Ottawa.

The Canadian Conservation Institute (CCI) advances and promotes the conservation of Canada's heritage collections through its expertise in conservation science, treatment and preventive conservation. CCI works with heritage institutions and professionals to ensure these heritage collections are preserved and accessible to Canadians now and in the future.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

A secondary school diploma and / or professional diploma in plumbing or building technique or mechanical assembler and / or acceptable combination of experience and training.

Degree equivalency

Significant * experience in the operation and maintenance of a facility, including mechanical systems, automatic building control systems, electrical systems and fire protection systems.

Significant experience * in the operation and maintenance of each of the following: refrigeration equipment, boiler systems, water treatment and ventilation and air conditioning equipment

Significant experience* of the repair and maintenance of various types of mechanical equipment.

* Significant experience is defined by a rich and diverse experience normally coming from performing a wide range of varied and complex activities for a period of about 3 years.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

Certificate in Building Environmental Systems Operator Class II or Building System Technician

Experience in the operation and maintenance of laboratory fume hoods.

Knowledge of applicable building codes.

Knowledge of the applicable maintenance procedures for building systems.

Knowledge of energy conservation measures, and energy management systems.

Ability to diagnose various types of equipment failures within facilities and to perform repairs.

Ability to inspect, operate and maintain building mechanical and related systems.

Ability to interpret printouts of data outputs and graphical displays.

Ability to supervise and follow up with contractors or suppliers.

• to perform related duties related to the job, such as but not limited to; transportation of parts or artifacts, installation of equipment for events, painting work and various repairs.

* During the standby period, you must be present at the workplace within 60 minutes.
