Intent of the process

*Please note: There is an immediate need to staff positions located in Victoria BC, St. John’s NL and the National Capital Region.

A pool of qualified candidates will be established and used to staff positions on an indeterminate or term basis within the Canadian Coast Guard and may also be used for staffing similar positions across Canada (including the following regions: National Capital Region, Atlantic, Central & Arctic and Western Regions).

You must meet all essential qualifications in order to be appointed to the position. Other qualifications may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed. In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Education:
A secondary school diploma; AND completion of an acceptable* training program as an Electronics Technologist, or an employer-approved alternative**.

*An acceptable training program is defined as a post-secondary program of at least two years duration in the field of electronics technology.

**The employer–approved alternative is defined as having completed an electronics engineering technician program followed by a minimum of five (5) years of on-the-job technical training and experience in informatics, repairs and installation of modems, landlines, Navigational, Communication, Radars and/or Sonar equipment OR having achieved the Canadian Forces developmental period (DP) 3 in the field of communication, radar, sonar, or navigational systems.

Degree equivalency

Experience:

Streams 1 and 2
Experience in directing the installation or maintenance of ship or land-based electronic equipment or informatic systems.

Experience in managing the delivery of life cycle management activities of electronics and informatics assets.

Stream 1 only
Experience in managing a team of technologists or being in charge of a major (1) project of electronic or informatic assets.

Stream 2 only
Experience in the management of human (2) and financial (3) resources.

Notes applicable to streams 1 and 2:

(1) A major project is defined as a technical project implemented over more than three (3) months involving tasks, milestones, financial administration and managing a dedicated team of employees.

(2) For human resources management, applicants must clearly demonstrate that they have supervised staff, assigned work; managed and assessed performance for a period of three (3) years.

(3) For financial management applicants must show evidence of managing and being accountable for sound financial planning and reporting.

Stream 1
Experience in evaluating contract deliverables from external electronic suppliers.
Experience in project management.
Knowledge of International computer and networking standards and best practices.
Knowledge of Communication Controller System and radio interfaces.
Knowledge of Ship telecommunications and data transfer networks.

Stream 2
Experience in managing a technical team in performing the maintenance and installation of electronic equipment/system on ships or land-based sites.
Experience in developing multi-year work plans, budget plans and human resource plans in the electronic technical field.
Experience in developing plans, budgets, schedules and reports on operational and maintenance (O&M) acquisitions and individual projects for shipboard refit or shore-based assets.

- Willingness and ability to work in an operational environment, including the need to work overtime and on weekends
