The intent of this selection process is to staff positions with various linguistic requirements depending on location being staffed.
Please note that a pool of qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff identical or similar positions at Environment and Climate Change Canada, with various tenures (Assignment, Secondment, Acting, Indeterminate, Deployment and extensions), various linguistic requirements and profiles.

EDUCATION
Common to both streams:
ED1. Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, with acceptable specialization in physics, geology, biology, chemistry, engineering or another science relevant to the position.
EXPERIENCE
Common to both Streams
EX1. Experience in collaborating with stakeholders or with different organizations.
EX2. Experience in providing scientific and technical support.
Stream 1:
EX3. Experience using Geographic Information Systems (ESRI or Open Source) and database software for geospatial information management and analysis.
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS - EDUCATION
Stream 1:
AED1. Degree or diploma in geomatics from a recognized post-secondary institution
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE
Stream 1:
AEX1. Experience in geomatics applied to the environment or environmental emergencies
AEX2. * Recent experience customizing or automating geospatial processes using one or more of the following scripting or programming languages: Python, SQL, PHP, .NET, BASH, MS BAT, Java, other
AEX3. * Recent experience designing, managing or implementing geospatial databases using one or more of the following technologies: SQL Server, PostgreSQL/PostGIS, MySQL, MS Access, SQlite/Spatial Lite, other
AEX4. * Recent experience in the development of web mapping applications using ESRI or Open Source platforms
Recent* is defined as experience acquired within the past three years.
Stream 2
AEX5. Experience in determining the impact of pollution discharged into the natural environment
AEX6. Experience providing scientific and technical advice in response to environmental emergencies
AEX7. Experience in supporting implementation of multidisciplinary projects.
AEX8. Experience in the field of petrochemicals.
AEX9. Experience in the field of aquatic or marine toxicology
AEX10. To have one of the following designations:
1) Enforcement officer under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA) or
2) Inspector under the Fisheries Act (FA)

KNOWLEDGE
Stream 1:
K1. Knowledge of technologies and standards, scientific issues and policies of the Federal Government supporting geomatics and geospatial data
K2. Knowledge of key principles, considerations and best practices for implementing a Geographic Information System Enterprise Solution.
Stream 2:
K3. Knowledge of environmental emergency management legislation, roles, principles and policies in Canada
K4. Knowledge of risks and consequences of oil and chemical spills
K5. Knowledge of basic response methods and techniques for oil spills

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENT
Stream 2:
• For health and safety reasons, some assignments may require the incumbent to be clean shaven.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Common to both Streams:
• Secret and Reliability Clearance.
• Available to work overtime and travel when necessary, including travel to remote locations.
• Available to be on stand-by (24/7) as required.
• Hold a valid driver’s license.
Stream 2:
• Available to be deployed to industrial facilities as required.
• Medical requirement: must comply with occupational health requirements throughout his/her period of employment and periodically undergo an occupational health assessment.
• Willingness and ability to work and travel in boats and small aircraft.
• Willingness and ability to perform fieldwork.
• Willingness and ability to work in adverse environmental conditions.
• Must wear and maintain required protective clothing and equipment in the prescribed manner as per the Canada Labour Code, Canada Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, Maritime Occupational Health and Safety Regulations and other regulations governing seagoing personnel.
• Work various shifts on rotation, weekends as well as statutory holidays.
Candidates from outside the federal public service will be required to pay for their own travel expenses when attending the required test(s) and/or interview(s).
