The position duties will involve the processing and issuing of design approvals [Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) , Serial Number Specific Supplemental Type Certificate (SSTC), Part Design Approval (PDA), Canadian Technical Standard Order(CAN-TOS)] to Canadian based products, in accordance with Subpart 521 of the Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs). The approval process for issuing the design approvals, involves the understanding of the appropriate regulations and standards, the application of engineering specialist knowledge and general project management skills.
Other duties involve participating at times in the process to certify Canadian products in foreign jurisdictions and in accepting foreign modifications into Canada, conducting oversight on Minister’s aircraft certification delegates, liaising with other departmental groups, and in the continuing airworthiness process of Canadian products.
A pool of qualified candidates may be established and used to staff these positions and other similar positions of various tenures and/or various linguistic requirements within Transport Canada.

EDUCATION:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, aeronautical engineering, or other engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.
OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
Eligibility for certification as a professional engineer in Canada with specialization in an engineering specialty relevant to the position.

EXPERIENCE:
Recent and significant experience* in the design, development, testing, in-service support or certification of aeronautical products.
*Recent and significant experience is defined as the depth and breadth of experience normally acquired when performing the duties for approximately six (6) years, whilst progressively acquiring increased responsibilities related to engineering in the aerospace industry; and the performance of those duties within the last ten (10) years.
AND
Recent** experience of three (3) or more years of engineering experience, whilst progressively acquiring increased responsibilities related to engineering in Aircraft Occupant Safety and Environmental Systems.
** Recent is defined as experience acquired within the last ten (10) years.

Information on language requirements
KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge in the engineering design and certification of Aircraft Occupant Safety and Environmental Systems, including pressurization and decompression analysis, ventilation and oxygen systems, flammability requirements, and cargo compartment certification.
Knowledge of civil aviation regulations, airworthiness requirements and advisory material and their application to aircraft certification.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge in aircraft system safety analysis (AWM/FAR 25.1309) of mechanical systems.

Knowledge in the area of aircraft structural analysis.
Knowledge in the area of lightning protection of aircraft structures.
OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENT(S):
Possession of a valid Provincial/Territorial driver’s licence to operate a motor vehicle.
Must be willing and able to travel nationally and internationally as required.
Must be willing and able to work overtime and weekends as required.
