Intent of the process

There is an immediate need to staff one (1) indeterminate position. A pool of qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions, with varying tentures.

Education and Occupational Certification:
Based on the position to be staffed:
ED1 A secondary school diploma or employer approved alternatives, such as an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

AND

OC1-Possession of a valid Province of Ontario Certificate of Qualification or military trade alternative (QL5/6) in one of the following trades*:
• Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic
• Steamfitter
• Electrician (Construction and Maintenance)
• Gas Technician (G1 or G2)
• HVAC Technician - Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning System
• Construction and Maintenance Electrician’s license
• Instrumentation Technician

OR

EDU2 – Diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution in a field related to the position.

*Management may choose to evoke a specific trade when considering candidates for their position.

English essential

Information on language requirements

Experience:
• Experience in the operation of Building Environmental Monitoring and Control Systems such as but not limited to Direct Digital Control Systems, Electric /Electronic Control systems and Pneumatic Control systems.
• Recent* and significant** experience operating, installing, repairing, programming, calibrating and maintaining building automation controls and mechanical components and filters*** within heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.

***Positions in Borden are not required to change filters.

For some positions:
• Experience in the application and operation of steam, hot water or forced-air heating systems, chilled water or direct expansion cooling systems and make up, exhaust and ventilation air systems and their associated components.
• Recent* and significant** experience with hot water heating reset controls, domestic hot water controls, various standalone thermostats, boiler controls and non-computerized systems.

Recent* experience, for the purposes of this process, is considered experience gained in the last five (5) years.

Significant** experience, for the purposes of this process, is considered as a scope of experience acquired in carrying out direct responsibilities in the field in question. This experience is normally associated with full-time performance of duties for at least two (2) years.

Occupational Certification:
• Diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution in the field of control technology (this may include but is not limited to a diploma in engineering technology or technician program).
• Possession of a valid Instrumentation Technician license issued by a province or territory of Canada.
• Certified training by one or more, but not limited to, the following companies: Honeywell, Johnson, Siebe, Siemans, Carrier, VCI Controls, Trane, Lennox, Delta Controls.

Experience:
• Experience working with systems and components related to direct digital controllers.
• Experience working with systems and components related to energy management control monitoring systems.
• Experience working with systems and components of Johnson Controls, Honeywell and Siemens building heating/environmental controls.
• Experience working in a military environment.

Organizational Needs:

Operational Requirements
• Must be willing to wear and/or utilize Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in compliance with safety regulations.
• Willingness to work at heights.
• Willingness to work overtime, including working outside normal working hours and weekends.
• Willingness to travel.
• Willingness to work outdoors in hot or cold environments.
• Occasionally required to enter confined spaces.
• To be on a call-in list and asked to respond after hours within one hour of being called in.
• Eligibility and willingness to obtain and maintain a departmental driver’s license (DND 404).

• Possession of a valid Class “G” driver’s license without restrictions issued by the Province of Ontario or provincial equivalent.

For some positions:

• Able to stand, climb, walk, lift, bend, pull and/or push, grasp, reach, stoop, and crouch, sit, read, writing, color determination, speaking and listening, and working in hot and cold environments for extended periods of time.
