The successful candidate will conduct analysis of seabird tracking data to quantify movements and habitat use. During the summer, the student will also conduct field work researching and monitoring seabirds in Newfoundland. This will include studies estimating diet, and using telemetry to track movements.
Environment and Climate Change Canada is a science-based department, and we provide the science and technology information needed so that Canadians can make informed decisions about the environment. The Canadian Wildlife Service is a branch of Environment and Climate Change Canada whose work contributes to the conservation, research, regulations and monitoring relating to migratory birds.

EDUCATION
Enrolled in a Ph.D. program at the University of Manitoba* with acceptable specialization in biology or some other science relevant to the position.
*The position is posted for a student at the University of Manitoba in order to work in association with a professor in the Department of Biological Sciences who is collaborating with the Canadian Wildlife Service on data analysis and field studies. The professor has collected relevant data for the analysis and will support fieldwork for tag deployments and recovery related to the project. Working in Winnipeg, the student will have access to mentorship, appropriate datasets, and necessary software for analyses.
EXPERIENCE
Experience* in collecting, analyzing and mapping telemetry data from animals
Experience* in handling and collecting biological information from marine birds
Experience* deploying GPS and/or GLS telemetry devices on marine birds
Experience* in conducting field work in seabird colonies
* Have a minimum of one year of experience.
