The Department of National Defence (DND) is looking for a new Executive to join the Defence Team, and is excited to solicit interest for the position of Director General Policy Planning (DG Pol Plan).
Together, DND and the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) create the largest, most complex and diverse organization in Canada. DND's role is to provide services and support to the CAF in their operations and missions at home and abroad. The intent of this process is to staff the position of Director General Policy Planning (DG Pol Plan) on a permanent full time basis. Should a pool of qualified candidates be established, it could also be used to staff similar positions with various tenures and security requirements within DND as well as other government departments within the core administration, with the approval of the delegated manager and in consultation with Executive Services.

ESSENTIAL (MANDATORY) EDUCATION
ED01: Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution.
ESSENTIAL (MANDATORY) EXPERIENCE
EX01: Extensive (1) experience in leading the strategic analysis, development and evaluation of complex policies in areas such as: defence, national security, international or intelligence policy.
EX02: Extensive (1) experience in providing strategic advice to senior leaders on issues relating to: defence, national security, international or intelligence policy.
EX03: Extensive (1) experience building and sustaining relationships and strategic partnerships with a variety of stakeholders, such, industry, academia, non-government organizations, international partners and government agencies.
EX04: Experience in managing human and financial resources.
(1) Experience is considered “extensive” in terms of degree of depth, scope, complexity and duration. Candidates would normally be expected to have developed significant experience over multiple years in executive positions.
** NOTE: The depth and breadth of experience will be a consideration in selecting candidates for further consideration. In such a case, only the top ranking candidacies will be invited to the next phase of the evaluations.
ASSET (DESIRABLE) EDUCATION
AED01: Graduation with a Masters or Doctorate from a recognized postsecondary institution.
ASSET (DESIRABLE) EXPERIENCE
AEX01: Experience working with or in an organization that has dual cultures.
AEX02: Experience working with an international organization such as the United Nations (UN), the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) or other.
AEX03: Experience in collaborating with foreign officials.

PROOF OF EDUCATION
Candidates will be asked to provide proof of education credentials at the time of assessment. Candidates with foreign credentials will be asked to provide proof of Canadian equivalency. TOP DOWN APPROACH
Selection decisions may be based on the level, breadth or degree of qualifications achieved in one or more qualifications; for example, preference may be given to the candidate that has scored highest on a specific qualification or combination of qualifications.
A cut-off score screening approach may be undertaken. Applicants who meet the essential experience criteria may be ranked according to the depth and breadth of experience they possess. Only the top ranking applicants may be invited to the next phase of assessment. Asset criteria and/or organizational needs may also be applied at the screening stage.
