The incumbent will be required to conduct both field and laboratory studies specifically around greenhouse gas monitoring in agroecosystems as related to specifically, natural landscape features such as riparian zones and wetlands. The incumbent will acquire advanced knowledge and research skills in nutrient cycling of N and C. The project has both field and laboratory components. Seasonal variation in work load and data analyses are to be expected. Progress and productivity will be subject to periodic review.
The incumbent will be working at the Ottawa Research and Development Centre (ORDC) and associated field sites. The center has expertise in watershed/hydrological monitoring, GHG emissions from soils, nutrient cycling. The requisite equipment required to carry out all laboratory and field activities is available at ORDC. The work is performed in a team-oriented environment at computer work stations, wet laboratories, and field laboratories.

Currently enrolled or willing to enroll in a Master’s program in a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in geology/hydrological systems.
Experience working in both field and laboratory work environments.
Experience in geologic mapping surficial/hydrological features.
Experience in soil sampling for nutrient analyses, taking water flow measurements, and routine measurement of water quality properties such as nutrients and indicators of water pollution like turbidity.
Experience taking soil-sediment GHG measurements using passive chambers.
Experience in field work in wetlands and riparian areas.
Experience using spreadsheet analyses packages such as Excel.
