Work environment

Established in August 2009, the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency (CanNor) is the only federal department with an exclusive mandate for the North. The headquarters of CanNor is located in Iqaluit, Nunavut. CanNor also has regional offices in Yukon and the Northwest Territories, with a liaison office in Ottawa.

CanNor's vision is to develop a strong, diversified, sustainable and dynamic economy for Northerners and Indigenous people, communities and businesses across Canada's three Territories. As the smallest of the Government of Canada’s five regional development agencies (less than 100 staff in total), CanNor provides a unique opportunity for individuals looking to be part of a small but mighty organization that leverages its nimbleness to tackle some serious, high-profile socio-economic issues!

In short, this is definitely not just another boring old desk job!! This is a rewarding opportunity for motivated and resourceful individuals to make a real difference in the economic and social wellbeing of northern residents; by working directly with communities and businesses, and witnessing first-hand the results of the government’s investments!

Intent of the process

A pool of partially or fully qualified candidates may be established to staff similar positions within CanNor's northern offices with various linguistic profiles, security requirements and tenures. These may vary according to the position being staffed.

The pool may be used by other federal organizations operating in the North.

For positions in Nunavut, Inuit enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement (e.g. Beneficiaries of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement) who are found qualified in this staffing process will be appointed ahead of other qualified applicants.
